I was making a general comment rather than directing it at anyone. Sorry if it seemed that way. I agree with you though that speculation doesn't really get us anywhere except maybe fuel more resentment but then I'm guilty of that as well sometimes. It's so hard when visiting this site everyday, expectantly hoping for some news, not to indulge in a bit of idle speculation sometimes to fill the void.hamer66 wrote:Sorry maybe a bit unclear, i mostly mean the posts about the speculation in regard to the OcDS development and what is going on . The development of OcDS has been "difficult" even before the release of DS IraySpectralis wrote:I honestly don't believe that discussing iRAY is detrimental to OcDS. On the contrary it keeps the forum going and we share info to improve our unbiased renders. I view it like discussing iClone/Vue/Poser or Lightwave on the DAZ forums. They are competing products but we use multiple tools and our discussions invariably reflect this. What I've learnt about OcDS I've applied to iRAY (e.g. emissive surfaces) and visa versa. If OcDS was up and running I doubt anyone would feel the need to be so defensive about iRAY. When OcDS is released we'll probably put iRAY away for awhile and explore the new plugin. Until then why not share more about unbiased rendering generally?
I see the Iray vs Octane discussion as a different discussion and agree that is a intresting discussion because they are competing products.

Just wanted to jump in and quickly reply to you all in regards of what we're doing right at the moment
It's true, we've gone quiet because we've been working on what many of you have already been correctly guessing at: an Iray RedSpec TGX shader.
Although Octane and Iray share a lot of features and functions (namely that both are PBR renderers) there is quite a difference as to how Iray approaches material set-ups.
It will take time for us to accustom to that, but we're hard at work doing just that
A lot of our recent quietness also has a lot do with our private lives a bit: One of us just recently had their son born and I've been quite busy with my dayjob.
Although we have nothing to announce anything Iray-related about at the moment, be assured, that we will release something like that in the future.
However, we started with Octane, and that is still were our hearts are and probably still will be in the near future, until DAZ Studio and Iray have matured to the degree that the Poser plug-in currently is in.
We're also excited for the new features OctaneRender 3 will bring to the table and in what way we can implement and make use of those in our already released products.
So absolutely no break-up with Octane anytime soon
We're currently working on refining something else we announced a while ago, and that will see a release for the Poser and DAZ Studio plug-in of the most recent release version.
Sorry everybody, if you haven't heard anything from us in a while, but we're certainly still here and certainly busy working on products to make life for you great artists out there easier
Should you have any questions, just shoot me a PM or visit our deviantArt group page here: http://redspecsss.deviantart.com/ - we try to update our journal there as regularly as possible, news about updates to the plug-ins included.
Of course you can also use the PM functions there.
Stay tuned and Happy Rendering, everybody
Cheers
Noel
PS: As in regard to our relationship with DAZ3D, we didn't submit anything after that product, so that's probably the reason why you haven't seen anything new from us there, just wanted to clarify that
We haven't been punished (funny, wonder how they would want to do that ^^) or anything for what we did or said in the past and we've been told that products are still very much welcome at the store.

I second this request. Some detailed information about the plugin's status and what people can expect in the near future.
However, also the kind but urgent request, to make a more detailed post about the development state of OcDS and what we can expect!
Thanks for the update Noel. Sorry to have speculated out loud here about the reasons for your quiet. I think the overall silence here from devs over the last few months got my imagination going a bit wild. Glad to hear that you're on good terms with DAZ. About the speculation that you've been quiet here because you don't want to risk jeopardizing your relationship with DAZ at a critical time, I was basing it on your post that I quoted. Sorry if that was a misinterpretation.

This is from a month ago and we're still in the dark.Goldorak wrote:https://twitter.com/superultrago/status ... 4598583297
Can someone from Octane answer these few questions:
Are we suppose to be lead to believe that Octance devs are learning the DAZ API just to help t_3?
Are we going to have to pay money for the next release? Such as releasing it for Octane v3 or releasing it outside of beta.
Why don't we, those who purchased beta access, have access to any builds in the last 6 months?
Thanks in advance.
Oh wow...This is from a month ago and we're still in the dark.
I thought that the twitter link Goldorak posted was kind of empty since it didn't answer any questions, but I didn't look closely enough to realize it was from a month old tweet.
That is almost beyond belief. Why don't we have information and communication from Otoy more meaningful than this?

Hard to believe that tomorrow it will be two years since I bought the plugin and I'm still using v1.2 beta to render animation. Meanwhile so much has happened to DAZ Studio in the last 6 months. I don't feel like celebrating.

We rely on 3rd party developers to provide customer support/feedback on a regular basis for the software they are offering through our store.Squirtle wrote:Oh wow...This is from a month ago and we're still in the dark.

That being said, we are ultimately responsible for your satisfaction and are fully invested in the success of this software.
We will make sure communication regarding the road map is more frequent and consistent - at least every few weeks, if not more often, until it is out of beta.
It's reassuring to see someone from Otoy step up, thank you for doing so. I'm sure a lot of us look forward to a roadmap related post.Goldorak wrote:We rely on 3rd party developers to provide customer support/feedback on a regular basis for the software they are offering through our store.Squirtle wrote:Oh wow...This is from a month ago and we're still in the dark.

Seems like the same song and dance. I'm just afraid that the reason we are not getting a new release is because it is intended for a cash grab by releasing it outside of beta or by waiting for Octane v3. All we can do is speculate since t_3 has vanished and has a history of doing this.Goldorak wrote:We rely on 3rd party developers to provide customer support/feedback on a regular basis for the software they are offering through our store.

Is the quote I'll be using when I ask for a refund if we indeed have to pay for a release.t_3 http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=45263&p=225509#p225529 wrote:reading this sentence i feel like giving it another intense round of closed testing...
