Because if there are some forest objects in scene 3ds Max crashes very often. Changing environment texture, entering material editor, importing an object to scene, trying to switch to CLAY mode.. everything causes an instant crash. I try same scene without Forest objects. There is no big problem without them.Rarely crashes..
This may caused by Forest or VRAM.I have 2 1080TI for rendering and scene takes 6.9GB in vram. Denoiser GPU is 780 TI..
I hope they can fix forest pack. it is useless without it

Bug report?
when using denoiser and AI lights, the saved non denoised beauty layer doesn't save alphas in specular materials, the denoised one saves.

I can't seem to see the difference when denoising is enabled and when its disabled (both for the Octane Camera and Standard Camera), its as if its not working at all. When I switch between the beauty and denoised beauty I see no difference.. is there a step I am missing?

I wanted to report that the AI denoiser feature is very unstable. With it disabled V4 works fine. Very nice. Very stable. With it engaged I get some very serious HARD crashes of the entire system. It really pulls it down. It is definitely something to do with the AI denoiser.

..I did get some crashes, but I was using xform on top of grouped cad objects.. but it's almost twice as fast?
..yeah crashy, but worth it sort of.. I'm on max 2017, and 980ti and 1080ti - I actually feel that it got more unstable with the 1080ti that I added - also installed the latest nvidia drivers .. so might also be that - octane team can you confirm, which nvidia software is the most stable for you?

..also crashed when I switched to materialID channel, last time, also does this at something like that, switching normal stuff, maybe even xform usage unstables it .. also the GPU fiercly overheats and goes to 100% periodically
- also maybe switching only one device to use AI denoiser

On the side note - it took me 2 or 3 days to realise that I have to be on the denoised beauty layer - so basically you UX skillz suck - make it obvious, make a denoised button - like that fellow did with the script - thank you script guy (sign yourself in the script - better yet you can add it to my octane toolbox script if you wish - it's in my sig and scriptspot, open sorce and free to use)

EDIT just had a gpu fail and switched denoiser and tone from 980ti card to 1080ti, it did't crash

BTW I"m using this in productiong, finishing up 4k renders, and it shaves of half an hour I think

Also pls, instruction for what do all denoiser options do and what does the AI light do?

Hi richardyarlett,
All graphics cards (but not Fermi) works with denoiser, keep in mind that denoiser need about 500MB.
Did you try checking "Denoise on completion"? If Enabled, beauty passes will be denoised only once at the end of a render.

it might be very helpful to use denoiser on/off without it restarting render somehow
.. do AI lights also have a vram overhead?

EDIT some bug when rendereng for animation, parts of render gets eaten up, animating some balls and there are parts of balls missing like a square that hasn't been processed - also noticed something like this is happening if I put up hotpixel removal - this effect increases or makes the render black..
- I know it's still under heavy test - so here's one from me

- again, this is also a production draft animation I'm doing, just finished a production render a few days ago, the denoiser cam in handy when I had to finish a few 4k renders - it was worth the crashes

- it does tend to get unstable - I got some crazy handling like 3dmax refreshing every window for minutes after clicking save file - maybe had something to do that there were two more 3dmax instances opened and photoshop - wild, but worth mentioning if someone else got the issue

EDITEDIT: working my ass off during the weekend - buggy behaviour not related to AI as it was turned off
- while saving max file with viewport open - all the screens on max refresh for a good minute, unable to work, or a few - almost causes me to force close it, but sometimes it maages to go through

Hi Paride,
do you know by any chance how to change phoenix fd liquid texture overtime in octane. Phoenix now has variable viscosity and we need lava that solidifies to turn to stone and stop glowing like in this example https://youtu.be/91DnI9GDI5A?t=1m2s scene attached

2. And on more problem Can noise stick to the moving liquid. Seems like liquid moves but the noise is independent (similar t othe problem I had with breaking rocks as one mesh) I added projection but noise is not moving with liquid topology

Thank you!

Hi coilbook,
I did some tests, unfortunately in this case lava is made up of particles and object space does not solve this issue. I did some tests using phoenix with vray, but issue is like with Octane. I tried exporting simulation to .ABC as mesh or baking texture but no good result. I think, it needs something to get with velocity, age or viscosity ID info, but I'm not sure what I'm saying, I'll ask developers for a tip.

Hi acc24ex,
my advice is Nvidia 391.35 and 388.13, but using windows 10 anf multi GPUs is an unknown.
Octane V4 is not for production, so some crashes are acceptable; next release will update denoiser and AI light as well.
Here you can find information about the new features:
https://docs.otoy.com/StandaloneH_DEV/S ... ceneAI.htm
https://docs.otoy.com/StandaloneH_DEV/S ... ILight.htm
To improve render and render times, you can also mix denoiser and adapting sample.
