There is no good way to ship anything that isn't a stable product which artists/devs can rely on for commercial workflows. Support is a huge issue for any engine, and if we released brigade as a lib at 2.x and went down that path for productization, we'd be years behind on Octane and nowhere on brigade 3. Soon we will have the best of both. We are constantly pushing the envelope of GPU rendering, year after year, and we don't intend to stop anytime soon.
But you could still release a prototype version of Brigade, even without support, who cares, there are tons of software out there with no support, but people play with them anyway.
The thing here is that for YEARS you guys have been teasing us with Brigade, but nothing was ever released to the public, so technically, it doesn't exist.. :(

There was a release of Brigade very early on (before 2.0). Students made games with it. We considered putting a Brigade 3 demo on the website along with the Octane 3 Siggraph demo, but there wasn't enough time.

For those asking about Brigade as a kernel in Octane, the easier path, which we've announced as service we plan to add to ORC, is for Brigade to render Octane 3 ORBX scenes (with compatible OSL shaders). A Brigade live viewport would then stream instantly and on demand to users or artists (depending on the intent), either as a 2D stream or a volumetric light field stream that could be used in any engine that supports deferred PBR shading.

When we release the UE4 Octane 3/ORC plug-in, there will be some really cool things you will be able to do with all these components.
