about 2: this is the intended result; the only goal of this function is to speed up rendering while tweaking the scene.
about 3: don't know. the switch is never internally modified and always set in a single particular place, when grabbing the mesh data from studio. what the plugin actually gets in return still depends on the mesh resolution settings of the dz scene node (which the plugin doesn't mess with). for the rest i depend on what studio provides to the plugins own geometry builder. i guess i might have sthg. to do with "primitive" objects (also including imported objects) that were converted to subd in studio...
