the scene is quite big, maybe 60 mb zipped. i will put all the textures in another folder because they do a lot of displacement so are essential for my scene. CAn i upload it on
file hoster ? and send the link via email?

p.s. i think the bug occures with scenes that have a lot of turbosmooth option marked only for rendering (not in the viewport)...
link would be ideal.
so you use single GPU 780? do you use network render?

Hi,
I never use network rendering and yes i have only one GTX 780 6GB.
i will upload everything as soon as i can! maximum tomorrow.

and one more thing:

when it freezes, sometimes i get ''nvidia driver stopped working and was successfully restored...'' :?

i will do a virus check also

That could be a displacement issue.
Could you do a test without displacement?

Hi Karba,

I'm uploading the scene via WETRANSFER and FILECONVOY and i will be sending download links directly to your webmail! ([email protected])

i have done pc scan and other stress test for the GPU. everything is OK here.

sorry i haven't had enough time to test it without displacement but the rendering times will become very short and I AM SURE IT MAY NOT REPRODUCE THE ERROR...

I want to remind you when the problem generally occures:

- open the octane render viewport at frame 573 (or something near 500 - 600) and set maxsamples to something like 3000 or 5000 in order to give it some more time for rendering. at certain point 3ds Max may crash or simply restart rendering from scratch ..... (it's only with octane render viewport opened)

- when rendering an animation, lets say from frame 200 to 700, rendering may freeze at an undefined frame... you still are able to close the rendering window but max freezes

thats it.

UPDATED to 05-10-2014
I GOT THE FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGE IN OCTANE LOG:

CUDA error 999 on device 0: An unknown internal error occured.
- failed to deallocate device memory
CUDA error 999 on device 0: An unknown internal error occured.
- could not get memory info
CUDA error 999 on device 0: An unknown internal error occured.
- failed to unload module

The strength of it depends on so many variables (textures, rendering time..etc).
Also don't confuse it with caustics or specularity flickering.
Just make a simple test scene like i did and see yourself.

Ps. Your video is too compressed to tell anything about noise.

Suv
Thanks for response
"Also don't confuse it with caustics or specularity flickering."
this is what i meant when i said noise is not static anymore. Optional checkbox would be nice

- sometimes rendering freezes suddenly and randomly when i render multiple frames for an animation!
It stops and the viewport becomes white.. i have no videocard issues. The GPU temperature is good - MAXIMUM 70°C at 100% load.
PSU is OK and i have already made dozens of stress tests for the gpu and system in general... it simply cannot be the GPU or system issue.

I have a scene where it happens quite frequently! where can i upload it? in order you can have a look
lol just read all my posts about freezing during animation rendering.

We are frequently getting this now as well. About 50% of the time, we get a "Driver Fail" error, then the frames just freeze and have to be restarted.

Are you using 780?

No Karba,

6Gb Titans. Temperatures are satisfactory and power supplies are appropriate.

Also 10-15million polygons, before proxies.

Hi Karba, any news?

have you managed to reproduce the freezing issue?

I have already tested a lot of scenes, it seems to occur generrally in heavy scenes with displacement, lots of instances and heavy turbosmooth... :|
