Ok. Well they could make the region render border like marque selections in PS. That would be easier then a Paint system to implement and would work well enough.

As long as you can select multiple areas (for example both eyes on a figure) that would work fine.

Images sequence as texture !
It's look like some users who use plugins have acces to this feature.
I'm using standealone and alembic workflow, and i"m pretty sure we can't do this right now.

You mean just saving the image sequence as individual files?
That's in the render animation script.
Or, what do you mean as texture, I may have misunderstood.

I compiled several lists for new Octane features, enhancements, improvements, etc. since when the Max plugin was released.

Maya, Max and Cinema 4D currently are the only software to create a 3d professional rendering pipeline.

Finally, after 3 years of wish lists, Octane is a mature product but lacks basic features and integration within the hosts.

I asked for:
target lights, see Vray and many others
alpha on specular materials, see Vray and many others
physical correct blend materials (not the mix one), see Vray and many others
Max procedurals compatibility, see Vray and many others
Batch render for render channels, see Vray and many others
Full compatibility with Nitrous viewport. You can't have feedback with mixed materials, see vray and many others
Physical camera with right correspondence with aperture, shutter speed and iso, see vray
Highlight compression, see vray frame buffer
EXR multilayer output, see Vray and many others
Where is the promised compatibility with AE????
Stereoscopic output within stereoscopic camera rig, see Vray and many others
2d fog, see Vray and many others
Visible ies distribution on target lights, see Vray and many others
Proxies, see Vray and many others
....
and now the 2.0 is slower than the worst free rendering engine.

Where is the Octane's gold age?

Let's just hope that 2.X solves a lot of those issues.

Yeah Octane is far from perfect. Yes it misses a lot of stuff other render engines have. Yeah integration with 3D apps is not ideal as well.

We never reached a golden age. But it might come soon ;)

I'm not saying everything is perfect, but I've been doing this 3D stuff long enough that this sure feels like a Golden Age to me!

I agree with gabrielefx,
octane is the only render engine (as far as i know) that gets slower and slower with each version because "it's the price we have to pay for new features"
every other renderer has new features and speed improvements with every release.
right now octane works for me only in daylight scenes, for night and interiors i use corona.
Because it's not logical to use two titans (in my case) and have a slower and uglyer render than on a i7-3770k
I guess soon enough i will completly switch to corona (for SPEED and REALISM reasons) if some miracle doesn't happen to octane.
Good luck.

I am sure the devs see that there are quite a lot of pissed people around complaining about speed.

But speaking of speed, cycles has a similar GPU issue(I heard the price to pay thing there as well). They even decided to postpone release of SSS for a long while because of huge memory req and decrease in speed issues. So it's not every render engine out there getting faster with each release.

But anyway they do need to fix the speed issues. Unfortunately programming for the GPU is much harder then for CPU, and is not straight forward. How to fix? No idea. But that improved sampler of theirs would help a lot if they got it right. And yes Corona is fast, and 2 titans(or any other high spec cards) to be just a bit faster or slower then a i7 high end is bad news.
