Could you please explain what you mean by that? Thanks.
Try to animate object with emission and you will see that motion blur are very sharp (over-exposed).

Another question about motion blur. Does octane support only camera motion blur or object motion too (without camera motion)?
Octane currently supports only camera motion blur. If you used that and your emitters are still looking not blurred, then that's probably because they are so bright that even the blurred light are still heavily over-exposing, i.e. white. If you would save the image as OpenEXR image, you could then reduce the brightness and eventually see some gradient.

Then probably the Alembic export of your 3D application is exporting polygon vertices in the wrong order.
I've cheked my normal options, all is ok. The problem still exist
Is it only a problem with the emitters or with all geometry? To quickly check, use the info channel kernel, switch to wireframe and enable the option to highlight backfaces. If everything becomes red, then your normals are oriented the wrong way and they have been stored like that in the Alembic file. I.e. the problem is in your 3D application that exported the Alembic file.

As I mentioned some time ago, the lock button (the padlock) is not working - when I maximize the preview window it is being deactivated (I use dual monitor setup).
Hmm, can't reproduce it here. What exactly are you doing? Thanks.
Here are the screenshots.

I see now. Thank you.

abstrax thanks.

And one more about alembic. I've added alembic node and render target node. If I'm choosing render target node and try to click to the camera settings, octane send me to alembic settings. I mean that I didn't see camera settings (aperture depth and etc) in my animation camera. Could you help me please :?:

I'm trying to render a turntable in 1.29. Each frame takes about 10 min, and I have set it to do a 360 over a 100 frames. I start it to run over night, but when I return to my desk the day after, the render has stopped in the middle of a frame. (frame 13). There is no feedback in the terminal of any kind. Has anybody experienced something similar?

I have recently switched to linux, so I do not have any program for monitoring gpu performance. Any recomendations similar to gpuZ?

I suspected that it might be something simple, like linux shutting down the gpu's when going into screensaver or something. But I have turned off everything I could find.

I will retry tonight, so any tips and tricks are welcome!

Im running Ubuntu 13.04, i7-3930K, 32gb ram and 2xTitans.
Hard to tell what's going on. Could be a bug on our side. If that happens the next time, could you please take a screenshot of the state where it stopped and then close/kill the dialog and check the log (Help -> Open Log).

My guess is that maybe the rendering failed and the Lua render callback just doesn't get called anymore and so the script hangs. But I can't say for sure and we need more input. We are going to hook up a failure callback to allow the animation render scripts to fail and inform the user if there are issues.

Cheers,
Marcus
Ran the render again, on a windows box this time. It went through just fine, so I suspect the problem lies somewhere with the linux box. If I find out what it is, I will post it here..

Is this the way to get an image sequence out of Octane?
The only option there is PNG 8bit?
For now we tried to replace the old animation functionality with Lua scripts and theu old dialogs didn't support HDR saving either. But we may add the possibility to save HDR images, too.
yes please this is a must have for me. the ability to save 16bit png sequence would be a good start...

If I select alpha option in RenderTarget plus "Keep Environment" the rendered images do NOT KEEP the environment.

I tried it in standalone and it works. If you enable the alpha channel you see by default the checkerboard in those places where no geometry is blocking the sky and if you then turn on "Keep Environment" you should see the environment/sky in the viewport again. This is what this option does. When you save it out, the alpha mask is saved, too, and because of that graphic programs will then mask out the sky again. If you disable the alpha channel there, your sky should be back.
ok sorry I know now what me made think it didn't work correctly: my photoshop just interprets the alpha as transparency without warning (8bit PNG). In After Effects I was able to "get back" the background. Just wondering: how to get photoshop opening the 8bit PNG with an alpha and not with transparency? Opening an EXR gives me the option how to interpret alpha channel.
tnx anyway

We found 4 issues today which can lead to a crash if you have the material/texture preview open and delete the previewed node. 2 of them are fixed. I think we will release an update on Friday which hopefully solves those issues. Let me know if you experience these crashes also if no material/texture preview is enabled.

Cheers,
Marcus
hi marcus, sorry for the delay :(
i'm glad to know that you have find the solution for the crash, i'm trying to reproduce it with the mat-tex preview disabled, fortunately without sucess :)
looking forward for the next version

Hi guys, nice release I think.
I have a question: is there a way to set a TIME LIMIT to render? It would be really really useful for us!

dumb question :
will there be more little features added until the release of 1.5 ? i am asking because i think features like HUE and SATURATION Controls in the COLOR CORRECTION Nodes are still missing, though the community is talking about them for a long time... or is 1.29 feature wise complete and you are just fixing bugs and release it as 1.5 when its finished ?
