We fixed a bug that would cause specular materials to reflect too much light meshes that are not closed/manifold (in fact increasing IOR could make it sort of emissive). This that some surfaces were incorrectly bright before, and higher specular/glossy/pathtracing depth may be needed to get the full light contributions.Ayertosco wrote:Using pathracing it's better but trying to achieve a translucent material (higher IOR, less reflections for example as in the first image) seems different from 2.3_2

Regarding the Linux build. We discovered a stability issue with certain cuda toolkit versions / graphics cards, we are investigating this, and will most likely post a build early next week.
please use cuda 3.0 on windows for now...Elvissuperstar007 wrote:crash!!!! CUDA 3.1

I don't know if this is still useful:
The current versions of my driver and cuda toolkit are 256.35 and 3.0 respectively. I downloaded these from the Nvidia website.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx for the driver
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda_archive.html for the toolkit
Octane has yet to crash on me, although I'm just starting to test it. Of course if I do have problems I will post them.

I'm not sure if my upgrade to the new release has worked. I unzipped the current release and dragged everything there into my old Octane folder in Programs. Seems to open Octane fine but when I look at the About Octane splash screen it says Aug 11 version still. Did that screen not get updated on this latest release? I still see the AA buttons in the tool bar at the top, yet don;t see these in screen shots of the latest version. How to best update my install?

you're running the previous version, the supersampling buttons are removed in this one.C3Design wrote:I'm not sure if my upgrade to the new release has worked. Thanks, I had just done that and now have the latest. Still the old splash screen date, but I don't think that matters with new versions coming out regularly. I'm getting things dialed in nicely now and will post in the Gallery. Stay healthy and keep up the great work!

Hey, I always updated the splash screens in the past and my lengthy absence has hindered the updates of the versions on the splash screens.C3Design wrote:Thanks, I had just done that and now have the latest. it popped in my mind up while we were uploading the packages, but we thought, let's go home and get some sleep, it was very very late
