Hi Bepeg4d:
I installed OctaneX PR5 plugin on my MacOS Big Sur 11.0.1 , but whenever I click any octane button on the top menu, my C4D will crash. Is my Mac incompatible with OctaneX? It is a Mid-2015 MacBook pro, 16GB, Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB, AMD Radeon R9 M370X.

Please help:(
Thanks.

Perrin
Hi Perrin,
unfortunately AMD Radeon R9 is not a Polaris GPU, so it is not supported even under Mac Os 11.0.1 Big Sur:

Basically you need a Mac from 2016 or newer, to be able to run Octane without an eGPU.
About eGPU via Thunderbolt 2, please have a look at here:

Hi Beppe!

I have a Late 2016 Macbook Pro with a built in Radeon Pro 455 (GPU Chip: "Baffin"). Is this GPU supported my Octane X under Big Sur / C4D R23?

Thanks!

LV is restarting renders whenever I move my mouse across the C4D viewport or really any part of the C4D workspace. Any idea why this would be happening?
Just to clarify....this behavior happens when I click on an object in the object panel. Not when I move the mouse around. Sorry.

This is weird, if you are not clicking or changing any parameter.
Please write to me at [email protected], I need to investigate more deeply.

Yes AMD Radeon Pro 455 is a Polaris GPU, so it is supported, but only from Mac Os 11.0.1 Big Sur Metal driver.
But I have no idea of the performance
If not enough, you can add another more powerful GPU via eGPU box Thunderbolt 3.

Thank you!!

I already have an external GPU (Radeon 5700 XT), but it'd be nice to be able to use Octane X also when the eGPU is not connected.

When the Octane X for Apple M1 computers will be available (+ Blender addon)?

Sorry, I think my previous post was lost because I wasn’t logged in. I’ll try and shorten it this time.

Will I be able to use Octane X on my AMD 5500 Bug Sur Mac in Blender for free without having owned a previous Octane license? I’m a hobbyist and currently don’t have the $ (or clients!) to justify the expense.

I have two Octane prime subscriptions but their cuda-only and can’t use them.

Can we get it working properly on existing systems first!?

Today I finally made the step from macOS Catalina to macOS Big Sur on my Late 2016 Macbook Pro with the built in Radeon Pro 455 2GB, upgraded from Cinema 4D R22 to R23 and installed Octane X PR5.

My test scene rendered as follows:

Radeon Pro 455 2GB: 590 seconds
Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB: 87 seconds
both GPUs: 78 seconds

This is actually good enough for me - I can finally set up scenes and render previews without any eGPU connected.

Thank you very much for all your efforts and keep up the great work!!
