I am close to switch to PC, because of the (for professional mac users) annoying "Nvidia against Apple MacPro" topic.

Anyway, here is my question:

Will Octane X (MacPro2019) connect or sync to existing Octane Render Slaves (Macs/PCs not running Octane X, but Octane Mac 4.x?) via network?
Can I send up my renderjobs to network clients, bind them and partially do the job – as known from Octane Mac/Windows versions, where even PC and Mac hardware does not matter (the installed Octane version on each platform needs to be the same)?

If no: I can skip the wait for octane macpro 2019 support and will directly invest into platform change with new windows hardware including current Octane 4.x/ or 2019 license. This is a runnning system I can rely on, with thousands of established licenses.

Kind regards and thanks for your support.

By the way: Thumbs up to the great OCTANE render engine and their developers – fantastic job!!!

Looks like osx 10.15.5 is out in beta now. Hopefully OTOY will let those of us that are Apple Beta folks - “Maybe a screenshot of our logged in account would be enough to get into the octane beta for mac.. ??? Jules?

We need at least a week to test 10.15.5 - the fixes we need are waiting on are very specific to AMD (and Intel) GPU driver fixes so we can enable OSL (and procedurla textures). Internally - all is working really beautifully on a test build of 10.15.4.

Quesiton fo everyone - what if we put out a test version of Octane X for 10.154 - but without OSL/texture shaders? This has been possible for some time, as a fallback and it still would give a large surface areas to test with until we can ship the OSL pieces for 10.15.5. Some scenes actually can run without issues, while others have cherkboard textures in place of the OSL/procedural, but otherwise render fine

We have 9 DCC plug-ins for Octane X built on this SDK and could be shared in addition to standalone.

Octane X without OSL test build (runs on public macOS 10.15.4):

Octane X with OSL internal test build (doesn't run on public macOS - waiting on 10.15.5 update):

Yea I don’t think anyone is going to say No, don’t let us try a pre-release version.

Hi Goldorak,

thats good news. Sure, I'd like to test a limited version that runs on 10.15.4. Along with the C4D-plugin, if there is already one.

best regards

Yes I totally agree! I don’t mind feature limited options... Would be good to see how this works.
I am also in C4d.. if it matters.

What have you found is the minimum GPU for this? I have my 2018 mbpro i9 16gig maschine with its internal gpu - and also a sonnet enclosure with an RX580

Yes octane X C4D plug-in works fine with no osl/texture shaders:

The only reason we held back on non osk/shader build was to avoid filtering bug reports from missing osl/textures/shaders.

Yeah good point.. companies should TOTALLY take advantage of us “captive audiences” - Testing would be a good thing!
Just as all beta’s preface the post saying these things are not working and and new features will be added as the beta builds progress. As usual do not use for production. etc. etc.
