I don't see anything bad with this slide honestly =) as it's about halp flot FP16 performance & then about other thigns including nVLINK..who said this is going to be 10X faster on SP (FP32)?

new, huge market for nvidia & not only is this early AI, deep learning & stuff along those lines. That's where that new devices for 120k$ with 8x Pascal chips under the hood Nvidia introduced during GTC shines & that's where money goes..where new steams of income for this company is ging to be (if that lifts off i nthe future as somethig we could not live without).

Nvidia game market (& we should consider being part of it as we use GTX cards) rolls on it's own. This VR thing is going to push the need for more powerfull devices, but so far nvidia maeks that happen with a lot of software optimisations. 1080 seems to be powerfull card, but bigger unit should be even more inpressive..question when it's going to come.

updating from older cards liek 980, or even 980 might make sense if You value amount of vram. That power usage alone is something to wow about. But it might not make too much of sense for anyone who has 980Ti or TitanX (those are great SKUs & at least 12GB card is here to stay for at least half a year =) Think in these days Guys expect too much from technological progress..it's hapening, but not that fast.

Yes, yes ... that infamous slide. But did you understand, what it shows and what the 10x meant? Basically:

"Nvidia’s CEO went on to state that pascal has 10x of Maxwell’s performance and he arrived at this conclusion via what he calls “CEO math”. Obviously this was just a humorous way to impress the crowd at GTC 2015 and is based on what was described as “very rough estimates”."

It's a silly mixture of bandwith increases, power per Watt and so on ... a chaotic and not very sensible way of adding up various feautres of pascal into a concoluted factor.

It's never and nowhere going to be generally 10x the performance. Obviously: 10x would mean more than three times doubling the performance. And GPUs double their performance atm at around 4-5 years. So you'd see 10x the performance around the year 2030, if it stays similar to the last years and they're not coming up with new wondertechnology.

Hi,

Due to the upcomming 1080/1070, many gamers will sell their 980 ti, and I have the opportunity to get at about 400€. The 1080 "not FE" is announced for $599, that means about 600-650€. Hum, I think that 980ti would be a better choice, but I will wait for some more weeks...

"The Pièce De Résistance of the GTX 1080 lineup however, is going to be the liquid cooled custom variants from AIBs. Not only are these going to have a much beefier power supply system but it should be able to reach the 2.5 Ghz mark. That is an absolutely insane overclock and should allow the GTX 1080 to achieve an absolutely gigantic performance lead over the older GTX 980 Ti."

Ok. Give me four of those, please.
This is just crazy...

I think we'll wait for the Ti & Titan versions of this card, which should have more CUDA cores. Would be very interesting to see what Otoy can do with the new architecture though.

980Ti prices on eBay are starting to drop... even Hybrids.

Great! Thanks Rob. I meant 'us' as in my office... We have a bunch of cards here, including 7 titan X's, which have not earned their keep just yet.
From the rumours out there, there seems to be a lot more potential in Pascal which is likely to emerge in the ensuing cards.
