richertmx,

You will need to create the scene fresh with 2.1 version. If your scene has any 1.2 materials, then what you mentioned happens. I had a scene made under 1.2 that I wanted to use with RedSpec. But as it kept giving me problems, I deleted my character from the scene. Saved a copy of it. Then created a new scene under 2.1 with just my character and applied the RedSpec SSS. After that did a scene merge and imported the scene I saved without my character. Saving the scene and opening this new scene again maintained the materials. The render I have attached in my last post is made in this way.

In general, if you start with 2.1 scene, the materials should stick. With 1.2 materials there are still problems.

A major issue that makes the new build unusable for em:

After I save, close and reopen my project, all my materials are unlinked. Which means I have to relink every mat after I close the project or shutdown my computer.

I´ve changed directly from version 1.2 to build 4, so is this something build 3 maybe doesn´t have so I could switch back to that? I´m working with the RedSpec SSS for Genesis 2 which doesn´t work with 1.2, so going all the way back isn´t really an option!

best wishes

Note for animators though... this one has a ton of animation bugs so best to skip it. Hopefully v5 addresses the animation bugs and i will be incredibly happy.
did the alembic export from Daz but I dont know where to import that in the standalone?

Animations dont take camera movement nor figure movements at all... but it does take focus changes which is weird. if you try to render out a 10 second animation all you get is the first frame over and over and over again at different states of focus, until about half way when the camera turns 180 degrees for some weird reason and then renders the rest of the scene out from that.

Focus is hit or miss... no matter what autofocus or manual setting you do. sometimes it lets you choose the AF-s window at the bottom of the viewport so you can select the focus points at the top, but sometimes it is greyed out... seemingly at random.
I can confirm that these issues with animation and camera focus are happening to me too (using OCDS 2.12 4th pre-release on DS4.7). The animation snafu happens pretty much 100% of the time while the camera focus thing is intermittent.
I still can't pinpoint what variables lead to the focus buttons becoming greyed out, it does seem to occur randomly. I've been testing with older scenes created while using 1.2 beta as well as brand new ones, they all suffer from these problems.

And then there is the issue of materials getting unlinked after reloading a scene. My experience has been pretty much consistent with what everybody's been saying. The good news is, I have not had any crashes attributed to changing material types from within the NGE, unlike in version 1.2.

I noticed one other thing, manipulating a figure (tested with G2F, G2M, Genesis) using the Active Pose Tool while the Octane render window is open has caused DS to crash on multiple occasions. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this as well.

You need to right click anywhere on the scene tab in the standalone Octane and select "Geometry->Scene" and then select the alembic file. The extension of the file should be ".abc". You also would need to add a render target and hook it to the imported geometry (the 'Mesh' node).

You will be able to see the timeline and other animation options.

I can confirm that this does not work either. I output the alembic file, imported to Octane standalone, it looks like it takes in the right number of frames, but the frames are all the same, just like in Daz.

Something is broken with Animation... very broken.

So yesterday i can't wait any longer and installed this pre release.

My Issue:
- Crashes while selecting the SYSTEM Tab when a scene is loaded everytime
- already mentioned , loading and converting daz materials always . no matter if it is unchecked or not

Yup. Looks like it. I guess t_3 has to fix the animation part. Btw. are you using the Export option from the plugin or are you using "Alembic Exporter for DAZ Studio" (http://www.daz3d.com/alembic-exporter-for-daz-studio) ? I think if you use that you still will be able to render your animation in the standalone Octane. But it does cost $$. Otherwise the only option is to wait for t_3 to fix it.

Hi t_3,

Another issue. Clicking the 'Final' button on the render window completely messes things up. Attached are 2 images. The first is the actual scene rendered without the 'Final' button click. The second is what happens after the 'Final' button is clicked. Actually first it hangs for around 5 minutes+, then once it starts rendering, the distorted geometry appears. Also parts of the scene are missing.
1. Normal render.
1. Normal render.
2. After clicking 'Final'.
2. After clicking 'Final'.
Hope this can be solved too.

Cheers,
Rajib
