Hi coilbook,
could you share a small part of your scene (even in pm) where using network make this transparent issue happen please?

OSL string doesn't appear in 3ds max OSL texture paramaters but octane standalone...

string input_tex = "" [[ string label = "input texture"]],

But if I put filename in code it loads texture but still doesn't appear in max' osl parameters.

string input_tex = "c:/picture.exr" [[ string label = "input texture"]],

Phoenix 3.1 is also supported. I could create and render some sample scenes.
I noted that they added a new way to process motion blur, I will investigate if it can be used by Octane.
I'll also have a look at foam and wetmaps.
Thank you. Also please look into RGB support so we can have smoke and liquids of different colors mixing in one grid.

Does this OSL thing mean we can now have things like scatter and random mapped tiles

Where are the instructions for using this?

Have opened the sample OSL max files from OTOY but am failing to see the point in alot of them. Why would I want to change the level of red in a material? What does this do that the colour correction map doesn't do? Would it kill you to put in a little .txt to explain what's happenning and where it would be usefull?

Otoy are clearly really excited about OSL but as usual, your instructions and communication and real world samples/examples fall way behind your competitors.

I don't do coding, and I suspect alot of other CG artist don't either. We shouldn't have to trawl through numerous forums, threads, google searches etc to find out how an artist can use OSL.

I agree OSL will be useless for most of us especially when you dont know how to code or have time. I think Otoy should create and sell procedural materials made with OSL. Or someone who knows how to code and make nice shades

BTW one of the annoying things with all late installers - no choose folder optin, I have relinked max, and now it copies it in the wrong place and I copy it manually from there ..

- also not really great option to have detect max open, I wanted to install to 2018 while using 2017.. at least go through all the steps and make sure it detects the version you intend to install on..

Is there an option to ignore the normal directions of polys?
I have plants with loads of polygons, roughly half face one way, half the other. Not sure how they ended up like this but hey...

These rendered fine in 3.07
Rendered in 3.07, no issues with different facing normals
Rendered in 3.07, no issues with different facing normals
but in 3.08 the polys with opposite facing normals are much darker which means I can't use the plant models.
They're Octane proxies with glossy material applied to the leaves.
Went back to 3.07 and rendered this with the intention of doing a 3.08 version to show the issue. However, when I try to go back to 3.08 it fails to install so guess I'm stuck back on 3.07 for now.
