I would also like to know what the changes/improvements are to Octane's plugin for LW2018, since I own the standalone and am considering this LW plugin as a first purchase.

Hi Juan
Are you able to give some details? :)

The plugin in LightWave 2018 has the same workflow and features that you can find in the LightWave 2015 build. Probably in the future, it will support LW2018 specific features, like for example the new volumetrics system, but at least the first LW2018 plugin builds are not going to have features not available for the LW2015 version.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Wondering: will 2015 presets, nodes and all, for Octane work with 2018?

Logically, I want to say yes, but that's from a non-programmer perspective: the nodes aren't different for what goes to Octane so shouldn't be diff, right?

Naive, I know, that's why the question. :)

Yes, one of the goals of the LightWave 2018 plugin, that has been made possible also thanks to the collaboration with all the LightWave development team, is to make it compatible with all the LightWave 2015 stuff, including all the objects materials and materials presets. In theory, any Lightwave 2015 Octane scene should be loaded and rendered by LightWave 2018 without major changes, at least from the shading, lighting and rendering point of view.

Thanks,

But, Juan, it will still work with the new way of texturing in 2018, too?

What new way of texturing, using nodes? Octane will work with its nodes and shaders, like always.

PBR and how materials now work - should we assume not only 2015, but also 2018 usage of material, which is new.

This (http://static.lightwave3d.com/marketing ... derer.html) and volumetrics are a curiosity for me in understanding the new Octane updates coming up for LW 2018.

Well, nothing changes from the Octane point of view. LightWave 2018 has a whole new render engine with a new set of PBR material and tool nodes, but Octane works with its own PBR nodes, like always.

Thanks,
-Juanjo
