It is nice to see an update with fixes to some of the many issues that people are having, but it would be nice if you would take a look at the fixes that I have proposed in the following thread:

http://refractivesoftware.com/forum/vie ... =33&t=5125

Many of these fixes should be relatively easy to fix, would make the UI experience more pleasant, and would increase productivity.

Well, when it comes to workflow there is always stuff to be improved. So, don't worry, we will fix/improve those issues, too, at some point. All the recent releases were mainly aimed at stability and all other changes were just additional things we could sneak in. But there is only so much you can do of those "small" changes in a limited time.

By the way - the resolution problem is not easy to fix unfortunately, otherwise we would have done it already. Please use the presets as much as possible. And now, you can also swap between different presets by just reconnecting the render target with different resolution nodes.

Cheers,
Marcus

Hmm, I can't reproduce the problem here, but I'm using C4D and the C4D exporter. Do the material names change? Could you please give more details and post some screenshots? Maybe one of the Blender users can help you, too.

Cheers,
Marcus

Ok, the problem is each render pass at 4Kx4K resolution takes too long: On my GTX 470 each pass takes 5-6 seconds and according to the NVIDIA CUDA forum there seems to be a 5 second timeout in the Xserver. I don't know how to change that.

Is the GTX 460 used by your X server? Maybe you can run the X server only on your GTX 260. This might help.

If nothing helps, try it with 2Kx2K resolution, which should take less than 5 seconds on your GTX 460.

Cheers,
Marcus
sorry, my signature contains 2 machines, i should change it to be more clear. i work on mac os x and render on linux box which have just one 460 which is connected to display

http://www.x.org/archive/X11R7.5/doc/ma ... ver.1.html

Code: Select all

-to seconds
sets default connection timeout in seconds.
will this help (if i find where to put it :) )

or should i buy some cheap card for display?
thanks

Sweet! First night ever I wasn't greeted with the activation screen after running some animation renders :) Also a nasty bug seemed to freeze Octane sometimes (happened also as frequent as the activation dropped), seems to be gone... Nice work on this release sofar :P
