Right, but OTOY stays calm about any works on speeding up octane on Maxwell.

Go read the news about 2.1. Maybe that is what they have been busy doing. These 900 series cards have only been out for a week tbf.
Just testing 2.1 but I don't have 980 - if some could test it please send scores.
On titan there is 13% speed improvement in PT!

I just tested the 970 with 2.1 and I only get 3.95 Ms/sec.
I get 2.6 Ms/sec with the 750ti and 8.8 Ms/sec with the 780ti

8.8 is a massive score
what clock and mem speed do you have?
PS actually on 2.1 overclocked titan scores 8.5 (same as 780 6gb), +200 core, +500 mem.

now that's a pathetic performance =) hope these new cards will be lifted from grave with improvements on code that would let to squeeze some more performance out of them, otherwise I can't image who can spend money for them (I'm not talking about gamers, but more about guys doing raytracing, GPU computing etc..)preciousillusion wrote:I just tested the 970 with 2.1 and I only get 3.95 Ms/sec.I get 2.6 Ms/sec with the 750ti and 8.8 Ms/sec with the 780ti
Glimpse,
you should see me happy with my 780s
and 2.1 speed improvement is all I want.

hehe, I can only imagine Your smile - probably reflection of it doesn't fit into monitor =p no, without any jokes - that was a good pick at the last minute, Smicha!
I'm waiting for my card too, still on it's way by post =).. & looking for more online..try to grab for half price from those who are looking to grab these insanely cool new shine 980 & 970..buy them! & sell Your old worthless cars - You don't need them anymore =DDD
P.S. how's the coil noise on those STRIXes? read that it's a bit annoying..

I'm starting to think that this development is a pretty bad thing for the business model of Octane, which is all about offering fast rendering for a reasonable price. I mean, if the only cards that'll be offering fast cuda-rendering performance in a years time will be expensive cards such as the Titan series (now that the 780 series is going out of production), I think we'll see more and more users stopping to use Octane Render, because the prices of good Cuda cards simply will be too high, compared to traditional CPU rendering.
But hey who knows, maybe the Octane dev team is working on optimizing the performance to the new architecture, and they've been able to optimize it quite a bit - maybe some of the Octane Dev team members would care to give us a hint of what to expect?

Schodt,
I see it differently: 580 was/is a great card, 680 was suppose to be better and it was not. But 780 and titans are great. So I assume that 20nm process in 1080(?) will give us 2x TITAN performance improvements in Octane.
You can still get 780 for reasonable price, not saying I saw 580 for 100$.
