Hi Bazuka,

Quick question: Does your plugin export object animation in the specified framerange as well or only camera? I am wondering if I can render some animations I made in octane.

I havent recieved my license yet due to refractive office being closed so couldnt test it myself.

p.s. found the probl, its the spaces in the project path, fixing now...

@face u were right, but i never use the spaces in the names of the dirs, thats why i didnt have any probl....

@SheepFactory

u dont have to worry u can render animated objects with deforms (if u have) and also animated camera (+ motion blur and dof)

im rendering something at the moment, ill post it soon ;)

@face
u still have a probl? u cant start the render?

I tried the new maya2octane.mel for Maya2011, and it works fine now,
rendering out the frames.
1. if I didn't check "lens aperture radius", it is to render way off.
2. there' no intuitive way of deciding the focus point. I guess that's what camera target does
to determine the focus point? However in Maya there's no intuitive way to preview where
the focus point, I would suggest Octane render to have a parameter where we could key frame the
focus point, eh? Or do you have a better solution? Would appreciate to know.
3. So far it seems only Camera + target would work, still not working for simple camera (camera without target),
would love to see Bazuka figure this out soon.
4. Sunlight direction, so far it seems it's not working at the moment? When check the option, and assign a directional light
to it, it's not taking its angle into consideration. The directional light is, say, 10 degree (6 in the morning for instance), but it renders out like 80~90 degree,
as if it is noon time still.

With the latest update of the maya2octane_beta2c, I tried it with Maya 2010, and this time I couldn't load/ assign the directory, not octane binary, file directory, etc.
Maya provides the error message:
"Error: cannot find fileDialog2"

cheers,

- u must use camera and aim
- i dont know what are default values for camera in octan so if u dont check the lens and aperture u wont get the same view like in maya
- dont know whats the probl with sun, ill try to fix it these days
- r u sure u copy the right script in 2010? coz fileDialog2 is only in 2011, and i have just checked there is no fileDialog2 in maya2octane_beta2c

cheers

p.s. went to sleep see ya tomorrow ;)

I have quick shown in your script.
I see that you have access to the values from camera/light.
$cameraName + ".translateX"
Give it in maya a higher level value?
In Softimage it shows as below.

-kinematics
--scale
---x
---y
---z
--rotation
---x
---y
---z
--position
---x
---y
---z

That means, that you have the scale, rotation and position in the value kinematics.
If you have similar in Maya and i think so, then you can read the direction and you can simple calculate the target position without the use of the camera/light target.
To use that, you must use some vectors, matrixes and for the camera the interest distance or whichever it called in Maya , hope thats supported in Mel.
When you need help to calculate that, write a PM/Mail to me, while i think, thats no topic for the forum ;)
