It's normal to see big lags or a few seconds freeze with full priority on complex scenes. Also if scene requires high computation. I'm not sure about render stop. It's not a plugin problem propably. Don't use high priority. Win8/drivers can be a problem. Just a estimation, there is nothing to do on my side for this. Octane devs should check it.
Display driver stop should point a crash on driver side. Again i'm not sure is a Octane problem. You may try different Os or driver versions.

Win 10x64, AMD 1950x 16C/32T, RAM 32Gb, 4x EVGA GTX 1080Ti, Octane-for-C4D 4.x.x, Nvidia 398.82
Was working under the project where scene was mostly from PNG images (with alpha) that had animation (sequence).
Here is some that I didn't find how it works or it was a bug:
Octane Render 2.12.2
1 - Alpha is black in viewport
2 - Materials preview object is only "sphere" (Plane was needed)
3 - Material>Editor>Animation Preview: Not working. Can't get work Animated Preview in viewport.
4 - Material>Editor>Editor Display: Always on Combined mode and this mode can't be switched.

I've just noticed a small bug with Gpu Stats in LV. As you can see in the attachment, Octane setting's behaving right but Gpu Stats in LV. As i understood the only problem is Gpu Names in the Stats windows.

the icon of the shader in the Materials is always black. also in the viewport in Gouraud shading mode, Gouraud shading Lines, Quick Shading, Quick Shading Lines, Constant Shading and constant Shading Lines.
In the real time viewer it's working fine. as in the Picture viewer Render.
Graphic Card is Titan Z, Windows 7 64b last update done. C4d R15 last update done.
It's the same with octane OctaneRender_for_C4D-2.06.1 or OctaneRender_2_12_2
