I like how the big news they said to wait for the end of WWDC week was that they might announce a date for a future potential preview... Should've know better than to prep my work station for my old mac on Friday just to have to switch it back to my pc today. Wake me up when I can get it as a monthly subscription & network render.
I bought the Core X box about a month ago and then bought the AMD Radeon Pro VII, all of which are waiting for the great OctaneX.
Obviously, the release date of OctaneX is still a secret, and it is not trustworthy. I believe that even next week, they will still have other excuses to deceive us, so now switching to Windows is the right choice. I wish you good friends!

More and more people no longer believe that OctaneX will be released in the short term

During the wait for Octane X I also wait for another promising option:
Unreal Engine 5. Real real time GI, unlimited polys...
Mac Pro (5,1 | 2010 | 12 Core | 48GB Ram) • Nvidia GTX 980 + 1080 • Cinema R19 Studio

Maybe it’s just me thinking this but shouldn’t we be super grateful and patient with the guys at otoy?
They’re creating some brilliant software specifically written for Mac users, without them doing so Mac users would be forced to switch from Mac to PC / work with a Frankenstein setup.
Let’s just get some perspective for a minute and appreciate how far things have come in the last decade. It’s true wizardry.

I totally agree – the fact they are doing this is fantastic. (Although, let's be honest, OTOY is looking to make money from this; it's not an act of selfless philanthropy). The wait has been interminable, mostly due to the fact that Octane X is such an exciting, desirable thing – and the reason many people dropped so much cash on a Mac Pro in the first place – which is now effectively obsoleted by the shift to Apple Silicon (thanks guys). So yes, I do appreciate OTOY's effort, but I think we've been patient enough considering the timescale and endless teases and previews. Thank God the waiting's nearly over!

For sure - super glad they’re doing this however I now appreciate how the RS team is handling things. No promises or anything just assuring that it’ll happen eventually and the next thing they’ll say is that it’s ready and available. Otherwise trusting people might go and make purchases on teases like last week all because it’s so exciting. Then when nothing substantial actually happened it doesn’t feel great. But I guess it’s nothing new and just a good learning experience - go with what works today. But otherwise I think we all can appreciate what this will eventually lead to :)

Yeah... i don't know which way i would rather have it. though..! - On one had.. we at least know octaneX is real and see examples.. and progress.

We also know its in closed beta.. which means its running .and evidently running well.

On the other hand - we know NOTHING really about RS's progress other than.. its coming.. and were trying to make it fast.. thats literally all we know.

Its two different strategies...

Otoy's way.. while teasing and somewhat frustrating.. im very happy they were able to share what they have .. despite NDA's and such.

As hard as it is to be patient.. its nice to know more of where we stand and i'm ok if it takes a bit more time..

RS is more a Black Box approach.. NOTE they have traditionally been pretty open.. and even put up a Trello board! which is awesome..
But they may be under NDA and or just not ready to share till they are further along in the process.

I suspect Octane will be first out of the gate and is further along at this point than RS is.
I do think they will both get there in due time.

;) I also like the RS group approach. No drama, no lies, when they are not ready, they will have no hint, when they are ready, they will release it.
The octane team is just the opposite, constantly hinting that he is coming. The actual situation may still be far away (maybe months, or even a year later). So there may be expectant users who lose confidence in this, and even change from gratitude to hatred.

I think the OctaneX team promises that there will be problems with the release date next week. Always feel untrue. In short, I think we are still far away from using OctaneX! It may take several months or even longer.

I certainly don't think we're 'months' away from getting our hands on Octane X. However it does feel like next week is more of an announcement than an actual release. We will see.

I'm not so bothered by the wait, it's the lack of real news on how it runs on macs that gets me. I'm happy to be teased for longer if we can see examples of the beta testers running it, get some OB scores etc. How does it run on a MacBook Pro? Or on a Mac Pro? How does it run on the ARM equipped mac mini Apple made available to developers?

Agreed. I have no intention of running it on my phone!
