Sorry, I don’t have an ETA, and difficult to say how many PR version will be necessary, in general not so much, but what I can say is that OctaneX is getting better and better at every update, and next PR3 upcoming version is a great step forward!
About C4D R20, please note that C4D R20 is not well supported in Catalina 10.15 itself, and older versions are completely not supported in Catalina or newer Os X versions.

Hello! I haven't been here in a while...I wanted to ask, in your opinion, how well does Octane X run on the Vega 64? I have an iMac 2019 with the Vega 64 and would love to know if you think that score of 108 is workable?mousek wrote:I looove you guysbepeg4d wrote:Yes, Radeon Pro 560 is a Polaris GPU, so it will be supported by Mac Os 11 Big Sur new Metal driver:

ciao Beppe... perfect..
Also...if I download the PR2 version right now, will I still be eligible as a brand new customer to Octane X upon it's release later when Big Sur releases?
Thank you so much for taking the time!

There is a lot of discussion on here with regards to the Radeon 5xx not working with Octane X.
I just want to check as looking at purchasing a new MBP 16" with AMD Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB.
I take it, that this will actually work with Octane X as it is the latest MBP and the best option available on the MBP.

The 5xx series is completely different from the 5xxx series, so a Radeon Pro 560 is a Polaris GPU from a couple years ago, and a Radeon Pro 5600 is an RDNA GPU, which is brand-new and runs Octane fine. Confusing, but in a few years AMD will be completely reusing GPU names from the pastDesignfreek wrote:There is a lot of discussion on here with regards to the Radeon 5xx not working with Octane X.

hey, I'm completely new to octane, and excited to try it out...
I have a MacBook Pro with the Radeon Pro Vega 20.
So am I right in thinking I can use the current standalone version on metal, for free? And this version will work with my MacBook? (I'm on the latest Catalina). And the plugin for Maya/Mac isn't available yet?
Also when the Maya/Mac plugin becomes available It only comes in the version you buy/rent? Am I right on that one?
thanks!

Hi guys,
currently only Standalone PR2 demo is available.
To check if your Mac is already supported in Catalina, please upgrade to 10.15.7, then download and install Standalone OctaneX PR2 demo:
https://render.otoy.com/downloads/a/113 ... _macos.dmg
Then open Standalone demo, right click anywhere in the node graph panel, and choose Materials/Metallic, to create the material node.
Now right click on the node and choose Render: If you have a similar result, you have a Vega or Navi GPU, and your Mac is already supported!
If not, and if you GPU is an AMD Polaris or Intel Skylake model, it will be supported by the upcoming Mac Os 11 Big Sur new Apple Metal driver, so you need to wait a little bit more.
OctaneX plugins demo versions are not available yet, but should be available with the next PR update.
At the moment, there are OctaneX plugins for C4D, Houdini, Maya, Poser, Unreal, Blender, Sketchup, Hydra Solaris, Lightwave, and Modo is on the go.
For new Otoy customers, if you cannot wait for the demo versions, and want to try also the plugins, you can buy a Studio subscription for € 19.99/month, and cancel it just after activation:
https://home.otoy.com/render/octane-ren ... ns/#studio
In this way it will not automatically renew at the end of the month, and you can try OctaneX for one month without restrictions.
Happy Mac GPU Rendering,
ciao Beppe
