One is bigger than more sometimes. Also it's not about being one man, it's about core and other reasons. Read what I wrote!

Latest C4D version supported by v4 is R21.
Now we are at v8(2020.1), S22 and R23 cannot have a v4, v5, ecc. versions.
The first version supporting R23 will be 2020.1 only.

WOW. So everyone that bought octane 4 should just throw it in the trash? what a waist of $700.
I guess this is a good reason to completely switch to redshift
My advice is that everyone that bought V4 (which was released two years ago) should get maintenance (14.96/month @ 24 month) to ensure they stay on the latest 2020 version and get all the latest updates - this is 50% off the sub price. If you want to upgrade to perpetual 2020, you also have that choice too, so this isn’t about locking you into a sub either. Note that if you don’t renew your RS annual maintenance, you have to buy a whole new version again for the full price (with all due respect to the good work that team is doing). I don’t think it’s fair to expect that we’re going to go back and update V4 multiple years beyond it’s release any more than we would V3 or V2. We are offering IMO a very fair upgrade path to users who are on a 2+ year old version.

@aoktar don't get stressed, we customers/users should be handled by customer service and you be left in peace to develop without everyone nagging.

Having a direct line to the developer is a great service/tool and we, as users should learn how to deal and behave politely and humanly.

Octane & you have been keeping up to date with Maxon's erratic way of launching software and modifying their architecture, rather than adding tools in upgrades. That for developers is a mess. Also, Apple is not helping anyone with their own change of mind.

Maybe if Maxon & octane got together and decide launch dates, us users would have an "expected" release and availability schedule and would not be so eager. But the times are as they are, and the internet has turned us into anxious demanding clients.

I myself are more worried about stability rather than novelty. If C4D & or Octane crashes non-stop my 8-hour workday turns into a 16-hour hell of constant reboots. So, stability first, novelty waaaay second.

Thanks for being so polite always.

Nope.
Let’s make this example, you are a Mac user, regular owner of Maxon C4D R19, payed much more than $700, and you have purchased a new Mac, or you want to upgrade your Mac to Catalina 10.15, or Big Sur 11... simply you cannot, and you have to upgrade to R23, paying all the missing updates:
https://support.maxon.net/kb/faq.php?id=58

V4 is based on CUDA 10, we had CUDA 10.1 (Octane 2018.1), then CUDA 10.2 (Octane 2019.1), and now CUDA 11, so simply V4 cannot be updated to CUDA 11, and you need v2020.1 (with a lot of more features), but, differently from Maxon, you need to pay only 199€ to be able to use the new versions.

Happy GPU Rendering,
ciao Beppe

Come on guys it is not realistic to expect plugins to be ready so soon. i think that also xparticles doesnt work at the moment. Also is not a good practice to jump on the new release right away. it can really backfire.

That said i have to admit that my experience with c4d octane has never been easy. This is in no way a judgment of Aoktar work, i am really not qualified to do that.
As a customer though Octane has always felt a dangerous choice, lets say it crashes a little bit too much. i wonder if things could be improved, if otoy would give more resources to Aoktar.

With Neutron introducing another node enviroment in C4D, are you considering to bring use this node space inside the octane plugin? It would be great to have ONE UI regarding nodes... :)

Some of the blame has to lie with Maxon which has broken plugins for three or four years on the trot now. Every year its the same for users, who have to track down serials, update their plugins, and gradually migrate to the new version, instead of just having an app that's updated with new features and runs as it did before. I hope the underlying work on APIs etc. starts to slow down so the plugin situation can improve.

For me, Octane X on C4D R21 has been a revelation. Yes it crashes, but for the most part it's smooth and fast. Cannot wait for the new version under macOS11 (refuse to use that stupid BS name).

Man, we have some self centered people on this forum.

Give the team the respect they deserve. They've been working their @$$es off just trying to keep up with changes in technology and the crazy advances in AI, RayTracing, New Drivers by both AMD and Nvidia -- New Software versions whilst also maintaining support for at least 3-4 of the previous versions of Cinema.

You have to realize that after 2020.2, we will be in the golden age of GPU Rendering. Octane will have so much power in the next couple updates, itll be hard to keep up.

Also, for anyone that ISNT on a subscription and/or still using v4...I dont think you have your priorities right :D

anyways, enjoy holiday Aoktar and cant wait for the the next implements coming.

VERY EXCITED to watch the GTC20 presentation next month! Roadmap is getting juicy
