thanks for the update goldorak, that sounds very promising!
Many thanks to goldorack for this valuable information!!!
... and to beppo for the Ubunutu/Linux conversion option. Both are very helpfull!
Now am hopefully can keep my current MacPro 5,1 invstements (incredible machines even after 10 years, runnning 3 (!!) 1080 ti`s each) and turn them into linux octane 2020 clients (RTX maybe?), triggered by mac osx X Master (MaPro 2019) octane 2020. That sounds like an economic keeper – without that hazardous definitely not happening multiple macpro 2019 invest. It is sad to see so many mid/small studios – as posted here – to be forced leaving apple, replacing macpros – because apple missed the opportunities so many times.
Regarding vega support (underlining the last sentence): I doubt that the redicously overpriced Apple Vega will outperform 4xRadeon 7 in a macpro 2019 – if AMD delivers the supported osx drivers. And they should, because its now their opportunity. Otherwise even that macpro 2019 plus octane conversion solution does not make any performance (and price/value) advantage compared to the ubuntu RTX solution provided by Beppo. Meaning: Nvidia and RTX will make the race – without apple AND AMD. Lucky winner: Octane
Maybe there is hope for us small but hypercreative digital avantgarde studios
p.s. There was a time when apple declared the direction by the sign "liberated arts" as well as the statement "we love software" (we too: octane) and we found a home there – as otoy is for creative customers fortunately today ... long time ago....

– Will it support "heteregonic" octane environments? Meaning: Running Octane X on MacPro, connected to network of current Octane (non "X") PCs/Renderclients?
Example:
– One or more (Design) Master running OCTANE X on MacPro 2019
– Additional PCs (NVIDIA)/Macs each running newest OCTANE Versions, ergo NON OCTANE X
As established and proven with current Octane 4.x for Mac and PC. Where thankfully "Platforms" do not play a role and Macs/PCs do coexists, binded via Octane Render-Network. Delivering high performance at a legitime price/performance relation.
This would fulfill at least minimum requirements of medium scaled studios with pro production approach. Otherwise for them it would be smarter to completely switch to PC/Octane, even on master design systems.
THX for your answers, suggestions.
As of this week, all features from octane 2020 branch are 100% working on Metal AMD/intel and soon iOS. For Mac we are hoping the metal api changes we need make it into 10.15.4, but if not then 10.15.5 beta. We’ll let you know as soon we we find out ourselves. Speed for Vega II duo (the card for the new MP) will put it at or near the top of the single GPU OB list if timing works out as we hope before final release.
Several MacPros + Win PC • Cinema 4d • Octane Mac & Octane Win
Remember that time that OTOY said Octane was coming to macOS and iOS at the end of the year... that was cool.

Does that mean we may see something this month as mentioned?
Thanks

You still have another 2 months, minimum.

Goldorak said they'd release an Octane XB1 for the developer beta of 10.15.5, if they could, if you're one of those folks champing at the bit.natemac00 wrote:They said 10.15.5 was a maybe.p3taotoy wrote:10.15.4 is out on beta guys

10.15.4 gold master is out. Do you guys know if that’s the release, or if we’ll need to wait for a 10.15.5 beta?Goldorak wrote:Yes Octane X on Metal will mix with latest octane 2020 CUDA slaves on the network, and vice Versa.nibbler wrote:IF there will be an OCTANE X update:

Either way we should be at most 2-3 weeks out bases on Apple’s release cycles.
EDIT: Whoops. I guess it’s beta six. But it still seems like you guys might have a better idea of which release we’re waiting for.
A public build might work in the verrrry latest 10.15.4 - we should know in the next week. If not, then the first 10.15.5 seed builds will have to be the first public macOS version we have to release XB1 on.
