Hi Chriz,
if 1080 with riser is computing much slower than expected, there is something not correct, I guess.
Please, could you switch a 780 with the 1080 in a fast PCI bus to see if there is a difference?

Hi bepeg4d,

not sure, how fast the 1080 really should/could be at the moment. I thought it can reach the speed of an 980 Ti. At the moment it runns at ~ 60 - 70 % of it....

My system is running now, so i will have to wait until later to try the exchance. Experimenting is with hardware configurations is not than fun to me...

Have to work with this a few days: I don´t want to make it worse at the moment and i think i will wait until there are some "official" Octanebenchmarks for the 1080. Than i will know, if my 1080 works as supposed to.

I need 1080 benchmarks, benchmarks, benchmarks...

Thanks a lot!

Chris

hi Chriz,

1080 should run at least 10-20% faster than 980Ti giving around 140 in hacked Octanebench. However after 3.06 OTOY expects to release new benchmark - then we'll now what Pascal performance going to after last optimizations.

Hi Tom, thanks for replying. Got no time for further experiments right now, but i will test the 1080 in other pci ports soon.
Perhaps a possible 1080 Ti will be a monsterGPU and i exchange all GPUs to pascal then... Have to make some (cuda/price) math on that later.. :)

Do you know actuall rumours about 1080TI?

Best, Chris

I don't bother with rumors, because most of those are based on project from cards released earlier. But if history repeats itself we should see 1080Ti as a cut down version of TitanX.. & that's around the power of TitanZ. However first it's more important to see updated OctaneRender & how it can extract that render power from Pascals.

Yes, you are right... we have to wait..
i believed last years rumors the new samsung s8 might get a 4k display. Great for GearVR and cubemaps and stuff.... now they say, it will possibly just have same resolution as s6 or s7... Time will show, same for 1080 Ti.
What i really wish to get soon is an 1280Ti or 1380TI, those must be real beast than

I get just around 15% in speed.
1080 comparing to 780.

@desire That is what i am dealing with too.

Will try to give the 1080 a other PCI port this weekend. I really hope it will run minimum as fast as the 980Ti then.

I will come back and report. ;)

1080 is almost 60-100% faster at OC than 780 - don't look at benchmark but measure speed in PT kernel for the same scene with parallel and tile samples set to max
