Deadline?.. Is that a 3D app?
It's render farm management software. Basically, you upload a scene file on your master machine and it splits it across all of your slave machines. I've only used it with vray, but Octane is listed as a supported engine. It should let you split frames of animations across as many machines as you want, effectively working around the gpu limit.

Again, I haven't used it with octane so I can't say for sure. It might not work. But its free for one master and two slaves if anyone has the machines to try it. Then I think it's like $185 per machine if you want more.

Looks like you export an octane scene file for every frame in your animation. Then deadline automatically splits them across your machines. So if you have four machines, they each need an octane standalone license, as well as a deadline license. Then deadline will split the first four scenes (one for each frame) across the four machines. When they are done, it will automatically load up scenes 5-8 (for frames 5-8). Then it should assemble the finished frames in sequence in a single target location that you specify.

I tried it on Win 7 Pro
6 cards in the slots 4 cards in an expansion box

Only saw 8 of them

The Device Manager sees all 10. But Octane would not see the extra two as available GPUs.

Hope your experiment proves me wrong :>))
I think Windows 7 has been proven to limit GPUs. I think Boris had an issue some time ago which Win 8 solved.

This was about OpenGl not working in Lightwave if I had more then 3 GPUs. This is what Windows 8 solved for me.

Remember that for arch viz jobs you render just 1 frame and it is a pain to distribute such render over several machines.

Ah, didn't know you were doing archviz. Your avatar made me think animation. Bummer. It really is a shame, since octanes speed is so damn amazing. Why limit it? Its like if Bugatti built a car that went 0-60 in 2 seconds, but capped it's speed at 100mph. So confusing.

Chrisvis, where are youuuuuu?
ChrisVis wrote:Hi abstractmedia,

I have the same Motherboard and CPU now, but 64GB of RAM.
I got another Card, one GTX780 Ti... and my older 3xGTX590 and 2xGTX580... all working together in one system and the turbobox.
3xGTX590 and 1x GTX580 are in the turbobox, 1xGTX780ti and 1xGTX580 are directly on the motherboard.

I have a very fresh install and Windows 7 recognizes every GPU correctly in the device manager... so it is 9 GPUS in total.
BUT: Cinema 4D hangs on startup (with C4Doctane plugin installed), when all 9 GPUs are activated! When I deactivate one of them in the device manager, Cinema4D starts normally and 8 GPUs are working.
When I deinstall the C4Doctane plugin, it even works when all 9 GPUs are enabled... but only one is used by normal Cinema4D of course.

So where is the limit? Windows or the NVIDIA driver?
Should I give Win 8.1 a try?

Anybody else with more than 8 GPUs??

Greetings,
ChrisVis

He has 590 in his system, isn't that a dual GPU card ? Maybe that's the reason he can see 9 GPUs in the system.

I will be buying 13th card in a month I will tell you will happen unless there is a post and someone tried. Can I have second router for 12 more. Or open 2 3ds Max scenes and do separate renderjngs.

I think it will be fair if they allowed 24 gpus. New releases are getting slower more features will be added. My render time increased by 25% by switching to 2.13 from 2.11 max plugin. And I render animations at 720p with ao only. No diffuse.
