These benchmarks are false.

580 gives 3.5-3.7 ms
780 gives about 7-7.5 ms

(and my titan scores over 8 ms)

which is 2x faster.

I don't know if Octane 2.06 will work with the GTX980
For sure we will see new Titans Maxwell based.

If Nvidia are following their recent product lineup, I'm guessing we'll see a 980ti / maxwell Titan in the next 6 months.

The only Compute results I've seen are on Anandtech. No Octane benches yet..

cheers

From "Extremetech"site:
The gap between card families isn’t as pronounced in CUDA as it was for OpenCL, but the GTX 980 is still 1.47x faster than the older GTX 680.

It seems that 330-350$ 970 is a pretty good deal, and according to tests only 15% slower than 980.

Im not really sure what to do now. I have to option to buy a 780 Ti and a 980 for about the same price. The 980 seems to be the better option over all but i'm primarily buying it for octane. If the 780 Ti still beats the 980 i would be pissed. I have a Maxwell card already, the 750 ti which is pretty slow, but i guess thats to be expected from a 120 euro card.

If I were you I'd go with 980 or 780 6GB - depends if you need more vram. I am in similar situation but I need 6GB and I think I'll wait for 8GB 980 - they should come out in Nov/Dec.

Thanks for your input simcha.
I have ordered the 980 and i might pick up the 780 ti too for comparison. I can always sell one of them, especially as the 980 is imported and not yet available in my country. I can post some results when I have the card, but delivery still might take up to two weeks.
