I'm struggling with Texture Emissions.
Please see attached screenshots. I feel I've amended every parameter now setting max and mins, but I can't get the light to light up brighter. It should look ON. Any ideas?
[EDIT] Don't worry. I've solved it. It's those bloomin' normals again. Gets me every time. Emissions shine one way. If it's not the way you want you reverse the normals on the model or remap the texture file.
Octane Materials. Questions thread.
Same here mate!
With just the monitors you would expect to be able to light up some of the surrounding area (such as the wall/fence by the steps!) but with distribution on max this does not happen. Setting the power any higher washes out the texture with 'white light' and it becomes more like a blackbody light and less of a 'texture emission' type !
Adding Texture emission to the neon tube light fills the area but am pretty sure you should be able to have more light around the street lamp ground area with just the monitors texture emitting light!
Seems that 'power' goes too high too quick while distribution is not enough!

SO when you say "remap the texture file", do you mean in a UV editor like Ultimate unwrap pro (as I have this)? And As far as flipping normals of a set purchased from the Daz store (as opposed to one I would make in Blender as I dont model in Carrara and consider this at the time), I need to do that in blender as I have never looked in to (or had to) normals in Carrara/Daz Studio

Yeah - this is an octane issue though, same thing happens on DAZ plugin.
In your case 2 lights I guess to get both effects right. It seems you have a working system again. Congrats.
re: normals. This was a plane so I resorted to flipping the image instead. (what ever works eh?)

Lol, quite agreeSciFiFunk wrote:Yeah - this is an octane issue though, same thing happens on DAZ plugin.
Alas not quite buddyIt seems you have a working system again. Congrats.I am back down to two cards until I can work things out!

Hay, better two card temp solution than no Octane right!![]()

Like I said before, at least my other system can use the other card and I can work on 'light' scenes on that system when my main one is best left doing its 'thing'

Issue with reflections in the windows (I'm not saying it's a bug, but my lack of understanding). They show the pool but not very well at all. It's almost as if the pool doesn't exist in the reflections. The right hand side looks better but that is a fluke (it's showing some of the internal marble flooring).
Here are my settings. I'm in the middle of a render which I'm lothe to stop as it's the end of my working day, but if anyone has thoughts I'll redo the render (animation) tomorrow.
Thanks

Looking GREAT SciFi Funk
Fantastic job on the tiles, I would maybe add some kind of 'bump'/ripples, dimensional aspect to the pool water surface but other than that you are heading in the right direction for sure. Also, if there was more enviroment (clouds)/objects (eg:trees) outside the perimiter/wall to reflect on to the windows and pool surface this would add more depth/atmosphere
Keep it up mate

Thanks. Agreed water is too still. Also on this version 1 I can barely fit in 60% of the house so no surroundings, but when I return to this computing power and software would have moved on again, so I will try again for sure
Also would like to experiment with different weathers another time.

How about a mix of HDRI/background map (can still use sunlight to light your scene) to reflect on to the windows and pool surface?

Good thought. If I could find a hill dropping off onto a city that would represent Los Angeles pretty well!orion_uk wrote:How about a mix of HDRI/background map (can still use sunlight to light your scene) to reflect on to the windows and pool surface?
