Thanks for that, Tom!
Yeah, I think I'll be getting that case next pay cheque. It's pretty different, but I kind of like it in that yellow!
Thanks for the tip on fans too.
Will post something up once it's all built up!

Hi guys,

Pretty new here. Nice thread!
I built a new system pretty recently (5930k, Asus X99 Deluxe, 32gb DDR4, 1300W EVGA PSU, CM HAF-X Case)
Currently I have a GTX750Ti (monitor) & GTX980.

Only got Octane last week when my Strix GTX980 arrived and I'm loving it!
It's a pity about the slow performance of the 9 series cards (hopefully this will change), so I also bought a Strix GTX780 6GB online (last one in stock on Newegg CA, 25% off :D ) - that should arrive tomorrow. I'll still be limited to 4GB VRAM but better than 3GB. Or I might sell the 980 later or put it in a gaming PC if the 9 series cards really are useless for Octane...

Anyway, wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding adding more GPU's?
My case fits E-ATX motherboards, so I'm kicking myself I didn't get the Asus x99-E ... I don't think it was even available when I ordered my parts, that's how new all the new X99 parts were here... I think I will only just be able to fit the 780 in (might have to bend M/B pins as discussed elsewhere on these forums); and the 750ti is a tiny useless card, so I'm pretty limited with this M/B I think :(

I'm thinking of potentially building a ~$10k 8 GPU farm (or 2x$5k 4 GPU machines) later this year. Hoping the rumored 8GB 9 series cards come out and are actually good for Octane...

It seems like a really tricky situation at the moment. Can't find any more 6gb 780s anywhere, Titans are twice the price (and don't seem worth the premium over the 780s to me), and the 9 series cards suck for now...

Side note: anyone think something like this case would be usable for GPU rendering or would the PCI lanes be too limited by the extenders and the CPU and not have enough throughput? http://www.miningrigs.net/?product=gray ... tem-batch2
Maybe batch 3 that will fit E-ATX boards can at least support 7 full PCIE slots with something like the Asus X99-E, then put in a 5930k for 40 lanes

10k$ ....

4xTITANS Z for 6k$ (there are 10 of 780 6GB in Warsaw now but the prices are 750$ + shipment to US makes it unattractive).
1.5$ for TITAN Z is almost same as 2x750$ Titan Black which is a great deal. And you can fit 4 of them in one mobo.
They also have reference coolers which dissipate heat outside a case which is very important for air cooling, unless you go with water cooling or a self-built coin mining case.

2x1200W or 2x1500W 600$ (corsair ax1200i for 600$ for 2x)

GIGABYTE X99 UD3 or UD4 250$ - no need to pay 530$ for Asus X99 WS, save 300$ for e.g., a case.

Personally I have Asus WS series, but if I were to buy a new, these two are best value for money.
I had Gigabyte UD4 on p67 and I miss is it (my opinion, but there are also some voices on this forum confirming that with gigabyte they had no problems contrary to asus). I had no problems for 3 years with p67 UD4.

Case-labs - SMA8, SMH10, STH10, TH10A, for 600$ - the best case on the planet Earth. Literally, no other case is even close to its quality. I had a server case, 100% alloy Lian Li X2000 and compared to CaseLabs it's night and day difference. I also built a 4xTITANs on Corsair 900D - its ok, but just OK. And when you just touch CaseLabs, just touch, you'll never want to give it away. Man, I am not exaggerating. You can build a monster on it, on air, on water...

CPU 5930K 600$ or 5820K 390$.

So for now we have about 8k and you have 8 gpus! And now you can expand it to the best Octane Render machine - water cool'em.
4xEK waterblocks 500$, 3x560 Rads 500$, Dual D5+top+res 300$, Fittings....

If you overclock it on water - like I did with my rig - you'll have 23 040 cuda cores running at 1100-1200mhz on core on safe 1.2V and you'll squeeze 400ms/s in DL in octane. And it will be quiet and cool...

Haha awesome thanks for that smicha.

I did just see the Titan Z at half price (Zotac) here but its on back order. $1800 + tax (CAD)
Hopefully they will get more stock at the same price; but the other 2 brands they have are still full price :(
The price drop must only be in some countries/stores (and more in some countries than here...)

It might be a month or two til I'm ready to buy (apart from adding GPU's to my current machine; I could probably get a Titan Z, maybe to replace my 980 or use 980 for monitor display). But who knows what might change by the end of the year if they bring out 980Ti's or something else..

The watercooling scares me but I might look into it..or see if I can find someone that can do it for me lol
