NO motion blur in 1.5? Are you kidding? Every render has it and it is THE most important features these days for professional animation and you dont implement it, while other render engines have it since 2 years.

Guys WHY?????? You are forcing me to leave Octane! I don´t want to. Why you don´t implement it in 1.5? You have no idea how sad i became, when i red Karbas statement!

   Chris
Just because it is not in 1.5, does not mean it isn't going to be in 2.0. With 2.x, we're gaining greater flexibility in implementing such features properly on computer model 2 or newer cards.

Gentlemen, please tell me you can sneak visibility into a release candidate before 1.5.
I promise I will not be as pissed as Chris, or toss up 20 devils if this isn't happening
before 1.5.. but I have a hard time remembering any one feature that I wanted in an app
so badly. Did I ever mention that about 30-40% of my work is compositing 3D shit into
images?

Giving us visibility could probably go a long way, and help countervail for no motion blur
and some other stuff that many of us are itching for. And when I do get my visibility options,
I might very well become be the biggest Octane fanboy you ever saw.. I'll be singing your
praises to any bastard that will listen. Folks passing by on the sidewalk... the dude changing
my oil...

And it is seriously time for you to drop support for 200 series cards. I'm sorry, but if
someone can't lay out a paltry $70 or so for a used 460 on eBay, they are not terribly
likely to have $250+ for Octane... is it not a huge ass waste of your valuable resources
to continue support for these old dinosaurs?

FrankPooleFloating, don't worry, your prayers will be answered soon.

Regarding the 2.0 features, I think it's been quite obvious that attempts to pry roadmap info from our hands are in most cases unsuccessful because creating a high end renderer for the GPU (a field which is very rapidly evolving with dramatically different GPU architectures and CUDA versions every two years) is quite a bit more challenging than coding a simple CPU ray tracer and often some unforeseen obstacles force us to postpone releases and features. We greatly dislike to fall prey to the "overpromising/underdelivering" syndrome that so many companies seem to suffer from. Rest assured that we're working on the most requested features.

for me the update sounds not good.
No MB, no Displacement, no features like exclude from Camera, no sunlight with hdri...for me it going in the wrong direction.

there is a solution to bring Octane render into a professional compositing pipeline.

Videocopilot did this:

it's a fantastic idea and I think that the Octane team can do it better.

Sorry for my "many Devils", but i really feel pissed. Still. It took how long from 1,1 to 1,2? 5 Month - or 6? How long will it take till 1,5? Again 6 month? Another 1 Year for 2.0, which i think i can remember that somebody said, will cost us again some money. So we will get MB in about 1 1/2 or 2 years and it will cost! WOW. Yeah. WHY am i pissed! Why!

Yes i know that there are workarrounds for MB. I know. But i also know, because i use other render engines too, that all these methods take a lot of time and are not the same quality as native MB like in for example Thea Render or Arion especially if you have fast action szenarios with DOF.

Guys - you once had an idea of building a great render engine and a product that shall leave the competitors behind and simply impress the audience with amazing render results in a very short time. Dont loose that way and stop going in the wrong direction. In my opinion you do that.

Many of us try to help you guys. We go on this forum and we spend our sparetime to help you guys, to make octane a better product. We help programmers to find errors and find solutions and we make suggestions. We, the end users, made a list WHAT features would be most important to speed up our workflow and to make better renders in a shorter time with octane. Many of us spoke. Why you guys dont listen? I dont get it! Its OBVIOUS what the most of us want, what we NEED, and you guys ignore the MOST wanted feature!

Do you know how real 3D motion blur works under the hood, not fake 2D MB? render engine must have at least 2 or more object states - transformation/deformation for MB calculation. Alembic support - is solid base for things like MB, you need just more patience.
P.S. thank you, OTOY team, for alembic support in near future
