ok, thanks; it is most probably ok to turn it on later from the viewport and again off before closing ds. i'm sure this will be fixed in the next update (not aiming for a 6 weeks delay this time ;))...
Thank you T_3, keep up the good work!

larsmidnatt wrote:shutting down threads, please wait is all i see :(

This happens when I try to load an old .daz file, so I thought it was that. I restart DS and decided to close it to get the 4.6 update and I get the same message eventhouh nothing has been done at all yet.

Will see if 4.6 update fixes it.
can you please also check if turning auto mats / live geometry off helps to load something?

btw; there are background threads running at the moment the ui gets visible, since there is already an active scene (even if empty) and misc. cameras; when a scene is loaded ds requests a clear (same as clicking "new"), which needs to shut all that down, resets octane, and so on.

can you please also check if the ds log shows something like "error clearing scene" after that happened?
thanks!

ive seen it sit at clearing the scene for several minutes with no updates. same as with the 4.6 update

i have tried loading a variety of scenes and this happens every time. Each time I force quit out of DS and on fresh launch load an existing scene. This happens for scenes that have octane data as well as ones that don't.

You'll need to chop Daz Studio off at the knees (kill the process in Task Manager). When you restart Daz Studio, before you load a scene, uncheck one (or both) of the auto update options in the preferences tab (one is for geometry the other materials). That fixed the trick for me.

ah thanks, i see i missed the fix. will try now.

ok, it won't go away since there did already something happen; means the plugin progress was crashing, but ds catches all crashes on clear/load/save, so the only result is, that progress stops wherever it currently is; do you start up with a blank scene or with some default scene?

afaik it is save to turn it on again if everything was loaded; i can imagine why it causes problems on load, but it should (hopefully) not cause problems later on...

will test it out :)

EDIT: It's better for me to just leave it off because it's easier to remember. I'm used to pressing the reload button every now and again anyway.

so far so good for the most part. figuring out the changes in 4.6 and the new octane plugin at the same time is a bit much for what was intended to be a lazy hobby night LOL.

But plugin is doing ok so far, some old issues still show up such as random crashes when updating materials via drag and drop and the scenario where the render viewport never starts rendering (even after clicking reload).

But this stuff isn't happening any more often than it did in the last few weeks, so it's nothing alarming.
