question...

is the live database intended to be filled with user stuff only or will we see some professional starting materials from your team?

which in my case would be great... i often overdrive systems for a effect i could have done much easier... ;)

Just wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to remove your own materials from Live DB.

Not at this moment. However if you want us to remove specific materials, just send me a PM and I'll do it.

No, you don't. Our system will render it after a while.

One very important thing in my opinion is that RS does a quality check for every material before they add in the material-DB.

It's important for the image of Octanerenderer that only high quality materials are in it's DB.
I've seen some sad ones yet and this makes it look unprofessional.

If you look at similar approaches from other material-DB's like Luxrender for example, they are almost emtpy. Only a few bad quality materials are in it.
I guess V-Ray has a good independent material-DB.

So I hope you can keep the DB on a high level and I hope this DB will grow.
Maybe you have to find some methodes to motivate people upload their materials because I guess most of the users don't do that (even I've never done it).

Kind regards
Alain
