were really, really wanting to know why you (appear to) hit everything you render with
16,000 samples... to us (I think) this is not like killing an ant with a sledgehammer, but
rather more like an atomic bomb...

It seems that Otoy came up with an arbitrary number of 16,000 - so that renders would
not go on until the end of time... and that somehow you have taken this crazy amount of
samples as gospel. As I state on the other thread, you are clearly a more advanced user
than myself.. but I am completely mystified. Is there something I/we don't know?

And please believe me I am not out to pick on you or anything... just trying to understand..
and minimize your carbon footprint. ;-)
for my experience I can say that 16,000 samples for interiors are enough for a noiseless render.
For exteriors 6,000-8,000
Because I use googles I can notice the render grain

I think it is now as crystal clear.. as your renders....

You (and perhaps your clients) have extremely high standards for image
quality. I am fortunate enough that mine are not nearly as demanding.
And half of my shite goes to print!.. go figure.

Anyhoo - thanx for clarifying. Peace bro. ;-)

It really depends on your scene how many samples you need. A interiour shot with large windows will need less as a bathroom with curtains and smallish windows.
There is no rule of thumb. An exteriour shot will need much less samples if you have some vegetation on i without reflections and a direct sun.
Also you can put a reduce noise pass over it in post.
For print you will stay with your 300dpi but even slight noise won't be visible on common paper. Slight noise even lets you get rid of the CG'is look.
Even your material setup has an impact on how fast your scene clears. Lots of mix materials add to rendertime. I try to stay as simple as possible with it.

So all in all it depends on your scene. ;)

Your eyes have not deceived you, son... though, there are
some used ones scattered about on AMZN and eBay...
