I can make a pretty nice and convincing wood material with mix, scale and turbulence in a network, fully procedural.
I might show a screenshot / procedure tomorrow, but i invite people to try it themselves while playing.
the trick is using the float3 scale node on the turbulence node, and using a few hierarchies of them with mix and scale nodes.

hi,

well the update is way slower than the beta 2.1. i have tested it. as sheepfactory mentioned the daylight isnt realtime anymore. the mix texture doesnt work here or i do something wrong.
i can easily crash this version: open the tree in the nodeeditor, loading a mesh, click on the meshnode to see the obj, delete the meshnode, load a new mesh, click on the meshnode (you should see the new obj but not in this version!!), change color....crash. works fine in 2.1

Win 7 64bit
amd 940 4x 3.0
4gig RAM

so Terrence had me test something to get dual cards working on the Mac and it works, sort of. Launching octane from the terminal with these options:

Code: Select all

octane -g 0 -g 1
works but only manages to load meshes and draw the active scene (it says both GPUs are being used and both show up as active in the Device Manager) but the problems start when you try and load a scene you save out. It just crashes. Same goes for when you try and make a new scene.

Weird - I don't have any problems with realtime sun / sky. Works the same for me.

there seems to be a bug in the cuda 3.0 toolkit for mac in that it reports 3 cards, 2 real and one bogus one, which is used by default.
after loading a new scene, the device manager resets itself, to the bogus card.

we'll have to contact nvidia about this.

n.drew, I have the same card and OS as you, its a 2-3% faster here, sounds like a hardware issue or user/different-software-than octane problem on your account.

I won't have time to test until tonight but can we now use float images to control roughness?
Remember you saying it would be in 2.2 but Didn't see it in the change list.

Thanks.

you do sleep, right guys? It's important to get your beauty sleep, otherwise you might start seeing the world in 0s and 1s and think yourself as Neo..... and who the fuck would want to walk around with THAT face!!!!
Thanks, as always, I'll start testing asap!
PS: I thought we would be having a different render instead of the leika, althou I do love that one, how about a different shot of the same leika, it makes a lot easier to know in which version I'm working atm. (I know is a silly question, but just the same....)
