Spheres inside the object will give you the bubbles. Just make sure that the object you want the bubbles inside are the same mesh as the spheres. They have to be the same mesh if you understand what i mean
Yeah I understand, its empty space inside the sphere mesh (kinda like in real life bubbles)
Radiance
i think we should drop the 'nose',
it looks a bit silly, like a clown-nose :)
 Its was not a nose until pixelrush MS paint skillz
Ok ill trow it away (im always doing backup of old versions just in case)
Chris
I can do the uvw mapping for you, if you like. I can also create a lightrig (when octane have mesh emitters)
Cool thanks :) but maybe we should consider HDR because its only a texture and not additional geometry.
Radiance what do you think ? HDR or Emitters ? In term of hard-coding what is the best

don't worry about the lighting.
all i need is a decent mesh of it.
the lowest possible polies, but it still has to look smooth. :)

maybe someone can put in on a slope background (like the CGsphere renders),
and add a octane render rounded text on the foot, and some measurement indicator like 1x1cm or so for the floor grid cells ?

I can do the slope background and the rounded text.
Radiance
the lowest possible polies, but it still has to look smooth.
Ill export a lot of different settings for you. Also I can export piece by piece with different settings so ill try to optimize it. Usually Moment of Inspiration 3D make wonder in NGONS. I can export to TRIS but it doesn't look as good as NGONS (more poly obviously but we see its not hand-made polygons)

Now I need two things for slope background and rounded text.

First thing Radiance is the size of the slope you want. Ive seen that Luxball got a slope maybe you know the size?

Ill make some rounded background examples so you gonna choose Radiance ;)

Second thing is rounded text, I got the vector logo (from Radiance) but I have no Illustrator at home so I cant open it and make it round.
Also because Moment of Inspiration doesn't support text-on spline yet (like in Illustrator)
If anyone can provide me a rounded .eps (saved as EPS compatible CS1) of the "Octane render" logo based on the plate size (size below)

With the .eps I can extrude it and make a solid with rounded borders of the "Octane render" logo inside the Nurbs software.
The whole object fit in a 13.5179cm x 13.5179cm by 12.5cm box and the ball is 10cm x 10cm x 10cm.
The material sphere is 5cm radius and 1cm thick. The inner sphere is 3.8cm radius.
There's 0.2cm of empty space between the outer material sphere and the inner sphere.
The round plate under the sphere is 10x10 by 2 height.
The material sphere is floating 0.5cm above the round plate.
The outer material ring is 13.5179x13.5179 by 2.9997 height.
Ill try to correct numbers like 13.5179cm to 13.51cm if you want
Here's a top screenshot of the material sphere

Image

The plate for the rounded "Octane render" text is 6.2355cm by 6.2355cm (size of the two yellow lines) 90° angle

Thanks for your help.
Im currently doing various slope backgrounds.

I downloaded the OBJ version of CGSPHERE and took a screen shot from the left view.
I rebuild the slope in Moment of Inspiration from the screenshot so the curve is the same.

As you see in the zoomed out version the slope is not exactly facing the camera, that's because I dont have tool to move it inside Octane and position it correctly. So in Moment of Inspiration after I build the slope I rotated by eye the material sphere.

Im thinking about reflections, if the material showed in the ball is for example chrome we gonna see the slope background in the reflection and that's not good. Maybe you should hard-code the slope to not being shown in reflections ? But then what about the ground ?

The plate for the "Octane render" logo is ready (the height is too much its just to visualize before I add the logo)
(sorry I forgot to remove the AWESOME NOSE   )

I want some advices for the subsurface bar.
If you look at the render there's more space on left than on the right.
The subsurface bar will be exactly in the middle of the material ball thickness.

Im thinking about putting only 1 SSS bar here shown in red

Also notice the blue line wich is the material ring, it also help for subsurface.

What do you think ?

Radiance what is your favorite number?
Its just because I need to add some number of BUBBLES

Download and take a look at this: http://www.thearender.com/forum/downloa ... php?id=394

Exact same as the Maxwell Render Simball scene, this scene do work very well for showing materials.

Im so lazy
(ill make an account)

I readed the PDF and that gave me ideas, thanks ;)
The markers are great feature.
Also the lighting room is good.
But there's no subsurface bar and markers are not quite the same thing.
Subsurface bar change size when the IOR change. The markers does but not by much.

Ill try to not copy everything
But that's indeed a good material ball.

Oh my god bubbles (just to see that everyone works)
Image

How do you manage to do UV if there's bubbles inside the solid :?
Im currently making a sweet subsurface bar.

(edit: currently going to sleep )

Great you got some ideas from it Sam :)

I Won't lay out any UV`s for the bubbles, only for the rest of the mesh. Bubbles will only be visible when you use a transparent material anyways. In general transparent materials dont need UV`s as they usally dont have any textures. It wont be a problem anyways ;)
I made a light room like that yesterday that we can place your nice material ball in if you like. Both Maxwell and Thea uses it, so it has to be optimized. I will test my light room in a unbiased render (with mesh emitters) today and post results.

Perhaps you could send me your material ball so i can test it?
