I really don't understand all the complains here, what do you expect, free, good quality software?
In what world do you guys live?

I think that it's not expecting free software. I think some people (myself included for some features) had an expectation that some of these V2 features would be available in 1.x, that's all. Light the faster rendering of many lights for example (where has that gone, was it mentioned in V2 info?)

I understand where it comes from.
Early beta customers (me included) were left with impression, that by the time Octane grows out of beta, it is mature enough for some more serious work.
But the reality was/is, that 1.5 is still basically the same as early beta versions, except added image post filters and alembic format.
The price point of the beta was low. So low, that it attracted a lot of hobby users who can't afford to buy expensive software.
So we have a large crowd of unprofessional users here (see how messy the forum is??) who are unhappy and hoped to get more for their money.

I have a question about the future of .ocs scene format:

Will all the new features (eg. hair strands) be available for import / export through .ocs format, or will you need to use Alembic (or .orbx?) at some point? Ocs is an text format that anyone can read / write / manipulate, and thus easily write scripts for data import - export.

Will my work-flow with Octane standalone 2.0 and beyond at any point require the usage of Alembic (or .orbx?) files, or will .ocs still provide all the functionality / contain all scene data?

ORBX if you want complete interchange between apps that contain all render elements. Ocs is just XML. ORBX has all the binary elements in addition to that. You can always unpack and ORBX and see the individual files in it and we are working with Mozilla to open source it along with our video codec.

That's good news! The more open the standard the more likely people will choose it for their workflow.

Does the new hair/fur accept UV mapping and textures? Or just a set of colors?

I think there is some confusion here, the RELEASE of Octane 2.0 is scheduled for summer 2014 (probably sometime in June).
Before that, there will be test versions and release candidates.
