In late January 2020, OctaneX said that we are waiting for a new driver, he may appear in 10.15.5.

After a long wait, it is now in late May 2020, which is about to enter June 2020, and MacOS 10.15.5 is officially released and pushed. Should OctaneX stay silent at this time or continue to tell everyone that you need to wait until MacOS 10.15.6? 10.15.7? 10.16?

I have lost faith. This kind of waiting without end is painful. I continue to go back to Windows and use my NVIDIA graphics card.
It’s still in closed beta for a little while longer. First public release will run on 10.15.

Ok thanks for telling me

10.15.5? Or has Apple not delivered. Again.
Yeah is that a typo or do we have to read that as 10.15.x, meaning we have to wait for another update?

The only thing in the release notes of 10.15.5 that refers to anything related to AMD is this (found on some website):

"AMD Radeon support kernel extensions, some new versions"

So the update now has the drivers and improvements or not? And internally Octane X runs on the 10.15.5 update or not?

Anyway, the next 10.15.6 update won't be available until the end of July, beginning of August. Another two months... that would be bad if it didn't work.
Because at the end of September the new system 10.16.0 (which I'm sure nobody will install as a productive system) with all its new bugs and quirks. So the first chance for a real production ready system is in end Nov. beginn Dec. The waiting will be exciting and frustrating.

So frustrating but probably not otoys fault...

I built a new pc system to which I'm connecting via parsec (from my mac).
Hopefully with time, there will be an octane version that works fully on mac and amd...

Undoubtedly there will, but for something that was announced back in June of last year, a year of waiting seems a bit unreasonable. And I've no doubt the bulk of it is Apple dragging its heels. After all, the Mac Pro has been released – why should it care now, right?

Everyone cares. So much work has been put into making Octane X happen on Metal. Apple has made it so AMD and Intel have drivers that actually work well enough with macOS metal to ship this product which is a great thing. For comparison, We are no where near that level of support yet on Windows/Linux support on these same AMD and intel GPUs for Octane Vulkan (which is also 100% done) . Nevertheless these Metal drivers still need more work before OSL works perfectly, which is why we are still in closed beta for a little bit longer.
