is there a chance to see version 2023 compiled for C4D R21 on MacOS? It is my latest pemanent licence and this version is still running acceptably on current MacOS. Kind regards Markus

Hello Aoktar,
I still have the same problem (but I've found why, see below) with saving passes in EXR (Octane), more precisely the 1st frame is only saved for one pass (random from one render to another). So only one folder is created with the 1st frame (0F).
The following frames are saved for all the passes in each folder.
> If I uncheck ‘Folders’, all the frames for all the passes are saved correctly. (so it works, but it's not practical).
I tested with Show Passes on/off. (also tested with Save Beauty and Denoised Beauty), it doesn't change anything.
I've tested all the compression modes and it doesn't make any difference either.
The problem also applies to a single frame saved in ‘Manual’ (from 0F to 0F).
> It works for a single frame saved in ‘Current Frame’ (from 0F to 0F).
So my solution for having all my frames from all my passes in folders is to:
- Run a ‘Current Frame’ render on frame 0.
- Then render ‘All frames'
But I have these folders problem on my NAS.
If I choose my Desktop as the render destination, I don't have the problem.
If I use 'EXR' format instead of 'EXR (Octane)', it works well on my NAS.
> So my issue it's the combination of ‘EXR (Octane)’ + Folders' + my NAS as destination folder.
Why does it work with ‘EXR’ and not ‘EXR (Octane)’... Grrr...

Hello Toche,
Could you send me the log output from Console window? It will give more ideas to me, I hope so!

Hello Aoktar and thanks for taking a look.
I hadn't thought of the console, so here's the file attached.
You can see the errors for frame 0, then I interrupted the rendering during frame 3.
This gave me the idea of trying a new render, keeping the pass folders (Cstm1, Cstm2, etc.) but without files in it (so empty folders).
You can see in the console that with the folders already present, I don't have the problem.
It's like Octane wanted to save my passes but didn't leave enough time to create the folders first on my NAS.
(locally I don't have the problem, perhaps because it goes faster?)
Thank you,
Toche

I don't think that's about not having time, there are not anything like that. But, it may be related that they are like NAS access is not allowed to plugin/Octane. It can write C4D's EXR format because writing operation done by C4D's system functions, but for Octane-EXR we use Octane's saving functions.Toche wrote:Hello Aoktar and thanks for taking a look.

I don't know... Octane can create all folders and save all files successfully... except the 1st frame where Octane only creates one folder and saves one pass.
(about plugins, I don't have this problem with another one like X-Particles which also creates folders and files for xpCache)
In fact, if the project folder has already been created (by Octane or by me), Octane will create all the folders passes with all passes successfully.
e.g. If my project is called test and I already have the Y:\test folder created, then I have no problem with Y:\$prj\$prj as the path for render.
I have no idea...

Does same problem happens if you start to render from frame no=1?Toche wrote:I don't know... Octane can create all folders and save all files successfully... except the 1st frame where Octane only creates one folder and saves one pass.

Yes, the problem is the same whatever the start frame (so from 1F to 40F, or 30F to 40F, same problem).
So for a path like RENDERS/$prj/$prj in my Octane Render settings:
- When the 1st frame is being rendered, the project folder has not yet been created.
- When the 1st frame is rendered, the project folder is created with only one pass folder containing the frame rendered.
- When the 2nd frame is being rendered, the other passes folder has not yet been created.
- When the 2nd frame is rendered, all passes folder are created with this 2nd frame rendered in all folders.
- Now that all folders have been created, there's no problem for the following frames.
I have find a "workaround"...
If I check the “Save” option in C4D's rendering settings, I don't have this problem.
Why? Because the project folder is immediately created by C4D while the 1st frame is still being rendered by Octane.
(I just need to delete all the JPGs created after as I don't need them.)
PS: The only thing I don't understand is that I don't need this workaround if I save locally...

Can you please answer me these questions:
1. What kind of NAS system are you using?
2. What version of Windows are you on?
3. Are network credentials saved in Windows?
4. Is Windows up-to-date?
5. Are you running any software firewalls or antiviruses?
6. Are you using Windows Share or SMB or NFS? If it's SMB, what version? Higher than 2.0?
