Just reporting an issue I noticed.
I was testing out the limits of my new win7-64 dualboot...
I found I could load a scene of almost 5m polys into Octane inside the 1gb GTS250 and this used over 7gb ram at the end of the voxelising phase. Great! 8-)
The unfortunate thing is the viewport remained all black no matter what and it was saying and doing apparently 33msps which is crazy (broken?).
I then paused the render and tried a Live DB material. The ball came up ok with the correct mat but the view became steadily darker and darker with the rendering until it was black. :(
If I stimulated the render by playing with some settings it brightened momentarily but then faded to black again.
Cant really send in the 5m poly file its 360mb but seems there is a bug in the works somewhere.
Perhaps the vram is too full to have work space??? dunno....HTH

I thought I'd take the initiative in the circumstances and make a note here for latecomers to pre-2.3.

While the pre-2.3 build for Win7 64 bit is working reasonably well there are obviously some unforseen problems with the XP 32bit build that make it unusable at the moment.

People should set up their Octane live account in readiness, but if you dont have Win7 64bit just be patient and sit out testing this next release for a while.
I am sure Refractive will do their best to get a better build out soon and follow up that with the Linux and Mac builds when they are ready, as planned.

Stay with 22b for your usual work. :)

Just some UI requests/thoughts after using 2.3:

1. An option to explode a macro (container of nodes into the contained node tree)
2. An option to select several nodes and package them into a macro (This could be done from the outliner view too so it behaves similarly to windows explorer)
3. An option in the graph editor to right click and import node
4. The ability to choose a folder to be a working folder, which appears in the outliner (using the same layout/tree/directory style as the liveDB) and contains the contents of the folder (plus all sub folders if present), so we can drag-drop files directly from inside the Octane interface.
5. When I import a mesh could there be an option for it to be imported as a macro so that inside will be the mesh node plus all the imported materials as seperate nodes.

Cheers.

Hello all,

For me, this new version not works at all. Started the first time to put my account info, and after just not start at all.
My computer is a Win7 x64 pro ( french ), I7 core 860, GTX 480 with nvidia driver 258.96 ( cuda 3.1 from previous octane render ).
I checked in the task manager, the program start ( process ) and just stop without error messages.

Thanks you to answer me if you have a solution.

Best regards,

Matthieu

Were you connected to the internet when you tried to run Octane?
Is your firewall allowing the Octane connection?
Does it say the account is activated and connected in green writing at the bottom right of the UI?
Under the File/Account Preferences/OctaneLive account Settings are your details correct?

Its possible you or Refractive made a mistake with your license particulars.
If everything else seems correct but you still have the problem send the guys an email - license at refractivesoftware.com

Matt,

It's most likely preferences related. Let me check something and I'll get back to you.

Cheers

@MattRM - Apparently something goes wrong with french accents (in your last name). I've modified it so you will be able to use octane.

Cheers
