Hi Notiusweb, do you try the v3 alpha ?
I have a system hang with all 8 GPUs. I suspect the timeout of 1x USB riser.

Hi,
Test on Octane alpha V3
Just test with disabling USB riser : seems OK.
Still with amfeltec riser, I get on big resolution render (3k x 2k pix) (or use displacement mapping), the system hang.
Back to version 2.24 : all is OK.
Do we need to increase timeout (key in windows register) ?

ASUS Poseidons seems to be interesting option as well =) You can still run the system even if Your loop fails..Notiusweb wrote:...you get the best of both worlds having the fan component and a waterblock to switch between if you wantin short some block are better some a worse
Hi itou31, I Just tried the standalone 3.0 alpha 1 with 12 GPU, not the OcDS (I have not upgraded to that yet). I am sorry, I am not experiencing timeouts like you.Re: External Graphics Cards PC

Hi Notiusweb, do you try the v3 alpha ?

It is definitely slower (unless you max parallel and max tile samples), buggy as well, got some 1/2 view-port black outs. However, my GPUs are all running okay on it, no timeout at a 5K or even 10K sample, albeit very low mem project though. Interesting thing I find is that as I reduce the # of GPUs, the display smooths up when you attempt to pan, zoom, rotate, etc. But, as I get closer to 12, it gets choppy as I pan, zoom, and rotate. I note that the choppiness occurs despite the fact that I have a dedicated card for display not used in the rendering (Titan X). Just the alpha, so I am going to post it in the general builds forum.
When you say your system hangs, you mean the app, or the whole entire Windows OS?

Wow, I was wondering if I would ever see something like this.Re: External Graphics Cards PC

Tom, this makes me wonder, the one you referenced has a spec that says it pulls 375 Watts, like a dual core Titan Z, whereas a normal 980 Ti pulls 250 Watts, like a Titan X. I wonder if it needs more power to have the dual air waterblock capacity available.

OK, thanks for the feedback.
My OS freeze when I enable the USB riser (780Ti).
Just do some other tests without usb riser but with amfeltec : freeze after a certain render time.
Perhaps I should dedicate a GPU for display only.
Hum... will try on the next release.

Hi all,
As Octane V3 goes ahead, I rechecked my system and found why it freeze.
On the USB riser 1X, it need more delay from the GPU.
So the TDRDelay registry set by OctaneRender Standalone is not enough (10s). I should set it at 30s and seems that all stable with the V3.
Sometime I forget that each time I install a nex version, it revert back to 10. So I have export the registry key to the Desktop to not forget to merge it when I install new version of OR.
Edit : Oh, spoke too soon. This registry hack help a little but The PC freeze when render big resolution (4000x3000 for ex) and/or "parallel samples" set smaller than default 8. Will check further...

Specification, Notius, doesn't way a lot about card itself..it's like speedometer, just because You have 200mph on it it doesn't mean Your car is going to do those - same goes with GPUs. 980Ti Poseidon has 2x 8pin power connectors but under full load in Octane is not going to draw too much more than reference design 980Ti.Notiusweb wrote:Wow, I was wondering if I would ever see something like this.Re: External Graphics Cards PC

I'm helping someOne to build 3x Poseidon (with extra gaps in between for better breathing) & simplified loop, so we'll have exact numbers soon =) however it's flexibility is promising: even if the loop is going to fail..just drain it & run those cards without any issues - wonderful solution!
Tom, you have to tell us, here or maybe in the Tutor forum, again about the Mac build you have too. The multi GPU macs are really interesting!
Hi itou31. Hopefully the next build resolves our V3 issues. Developer Marcus seems to be specific in what he thinks is causing it, he responded to Tom G about a tonemapping issue doing something bad with Multi GPUs, blocking kernel calls, or something, back during an earlier V3 alpha. So maybe a fix of some type has been in the works for a while. Anyway, fingers and GPUs crossed!Edit : Oh, spoke too soon.
