It's a message when shader samples have an error while trying to initialise C4D shaders. You have a C4D gradient in background. Btw It's working fine. Are you on OSX? I can't see any issue with that. Had an issue with the Live DB Viewer in R18.048.
I've set the local DB path to an existing folder with materials, but it didn't show me the categories of the local DB, only when I created a new category the existing ones where showed. And I couldn't delete the created category, had to do it manually in Windows Explorer, but unfortunately Cinema crashed after that
It also seems, that when I rename the material in the Live DB Viewer, the orbx file gets renamed, but the viewer still shows the old name.
