i have just update script so u can get it on 1st page, gpu flag fixed,

yes without -g everything works great, only way that doesnt work is when u have other flag too (as i could notice)

its L for linking ;) if i got it right...

p.s. ill try max ver to see if the probl is here ;)

no news about my camera (not solved) problem
BTW few things :
I try to use a 200 mm focal length and octane exporter is limited to 100 (focal depth)
I work on a scene in meter but native unit size says : centimeters
Is that normal?

To finish, can you get image resolution from render settings; enter the value each time is a little boring

Focal length and focal depth are different things.
Focal length is the zoom in mm.
Focal depth is the distance to the point that has the focus in m.

The script is pre focal depth, also as the option has no effect in Octane and bazuka used it for focal length.

my mistake i type 100 as a max value for the field box, ill fix it in no time ;) (dl new ver from 1st page)

native unit size is not implemented yet ; so u dont have to worry

Hi Guys,

I 'm a new Octane user and I wonder how to set the mel script for Maya on Mac so I can use it to render my animations. Is there any tutorial some where, or I have to go through all the posts in order to find out on how it works?

im not in osx but this is the solution that cgbeige found:

ok - just had a chance to try again. The script works only after I enter the path to the application manually because of two problems with the Mac version of Maya 2011 (it's a Qt problem): If you use OS-native dialogs, like I do, you can pick Octane.app but not the binary. If you use the Maya dialogs, it lets you go inside Octane.app but not select the binary. Yes, Maya 2011 is a train wreck.

So, in order for the script to work, I have to manually enter the path every time (u can save the path from menu). So please add the path automatically to the script:

/Applications/octane.app/Contents/MacOS/octane

That's where the binary is and I don't think anyone's going to move it so I'd even say that having the option is overkill.

Ok - I've tested the latest version of the script and it works on OS X. I made a video explanation of how to use the exporter since I forgot myself. This shows how to match Maya's viewport with what you get at render time.

Bazuka - problems I'm having with the script:

- Maya is hung until the rendering is done. I can't use it. Is there a way to release Maya after sending the job?
- I can't get multiple GPUs working. I'm not sure if this is a known problem.
- only the binary and project path settings are saved when you save the settings in the dialog - nothing else.

I haven't tried animation.

- hm, should not hang, only while the obj is exported... i dont have that probl here
- dont know about this one, i dont think its the probl with script, can u check the output line from maya?
- yes i set only the binary, image & project path settings to be saved in cfg (let me know if u want anything else to be saved)

also - is it possible to specify the max sample level for stills? It currently has to be set in the Octane project first. Kind of annoying for just previewing.

What's supposed to happen when the render finishes in Octane? I am just left with Maya hung and Octane sitting there.

hehe, i dont know nothing ;) u can close maya and continue working in octane...

p.s. now i got it what ur were trying to say in previous post about maya hang, i though u mean freeze
