Hi RS team,
still testing this release:
I noticed this build crashes a lot when I slide the exploration_strength to the right (high values). When I keep the e_s value low, renders runs fine and octane doesn't quit suddenly (I observed this phenomenon of exiting octane with 2.45 I reckon, with 2.46b everything's ok). Does this parameter stresses hard gpus or doesn't play well and stablely with cuda 4.0?

I'm trying to simulate this in Octane:

But I can't get it to work. There is no light appearing on the other side of the prism at all, which might be due to there being no way to have a concentrated beam of light (as far as I know). Do you know of any other possible causes as to why this is? I'm using a small emitter inside a tube to restrict its direction into the prism.

I've done a render test using a scene with a single IES light only in a boxed room. Glossy wood floor with bump map and glossy teapot.Walls & ceiling diffused with a bump map
V2.47
2000 samples using PMC - 1.44 FPS
2000 samples using pathtracing - 1.65 FPS
Interestingly running the same scene in the 2.46b release using pathtracing produced 1.52 FPS
so as others have noted on here the Pathtracing in 2.47 is indeed slightly faster than it is in 2.46b by 0.13 FPS
As shown from the samples using PMC on an IES lighted scene it still clears up better than pathtracing.

have you tried using an IES directed Spotlight at it ?
Just an Idea.

Edit: Okay, I figured out how to make IES lights now. But what do I need to do to use it in Octane?

Make the selected mesh a texture emitter.
Plug the IES file into the distribution node of that.
the one i used was a mesh and associated IES file from the Erco lighting web site.

I've retry the interior scene, this time the glass in the windows has no dispersion, but most important is that I've redone the whole scene in this build cause when I opened it maxdepth showed in red, indicating some mistake I guess. So now it's fresh new, same materials, sun instead of hdri and this time I let it cook for 20000 samples , althou it looked cooked with much less.
