loading depends on system ram, because the preparation (parsing the scene, voxeling) is done via the cpu. for a scene resulting in a little over 7 mio triangles (600mb .obj), i'm currently working on, octane acquires around 8.5 gigabytes of ram at max...bartosh44 wrote:What about loading scene? It depends on the amount of ram or vram memory?

it does, meaning that it you have enough ram during voxelizing load times are fine, but if you don't and it needs to use swap then it becomes a painful experience as Roubal explained in some thread. He also said, if I recall correctly that you need something like 4xVram of Ram to fully load your GPU. I've got 1,2Gb Vram and since I got 12Gb Ram I haven't had any problems yet, but I'm guessing that if I had a 3Gb Gpu I could run into long loading times if I had to maximaze Vram.

I have an evga classified sr 2 motherboard with two xeon 5650 @ 4ghz ( not octane friendly but cpu renderers friendly) 24 gb ram and 3 evga 580 3gb. So far I have never have the time to really test this new beast on octane ( too much work to do do with other apps)

you have a super configuration...perfect for iRay or Arion because they support gpu+cpu. For Octane the minimum required to work is to have 4 GTX580 or 4 TESLA 295.pixym wrote:I have an evga classified sr 2 motherboard with two xeon 5650 @ 4ghz ( not octane friendly but cpu renderers friendly) 24 gb ram and 3 evga 580 3gb. I have a fourth gtx 580 3gb but my 1200w power supply is not sufficeient enough to support four graphic cards. I have to buy a 1500w power unit in order to install the fouth one...
