VISUAL360 wrote:Hello,

For Octane Materials for basic product renders, how do I create and use materials in the Material Network node as opposed to using Shopnet? Where do I put my rendertarget?

Thanks

In the /mat context you need to build your materials inside the Octane material builder vopnet, although you can also create materials directly in this context without the material builder. Currently, the predefined render target is still a SHOP HDA, but you could build your own render target in the /mat context if you want.

Hope it helps,

Thanks!

Is there somewhere I can reference or review basic documentation on how to set up some materials for Octane using the material network. I'd like to add some height/displacement to a concrete floor.

Just looking to understand what proper nodes I can start with. Materials 101 for the mat network. Appreciate your help.

Oh, and can you explain what you mean about creating that rendertarget in the material node, please?

Hi,

The 4.04 subscription plugin builds have been updated to support network rendering. The new build number for these builds is 4.04.0.1

Thanks,

I mean that a custom render target HDA, like the one available in the SHOP context, could be also built inside the new /mat node without problems, but you don't need to do it at all. At some point in the future, I'll include a new /mat render target HDA to replace the old SHOP based one.

About how to setup materials in the /mat context (that is the same workflow found in the old SHOP context, but using the material builder node), perhaps you could try to find in google more information and tutorials. There are several introduction videos about the Houdini plugin from Rohan Dalvi or BW Design that could help.

Thanks but not to be rude but those videos are three years old....and it's really not their product.

For people just getting into it, would be nice to have more relevant videos from the makers of the product. I'm not talking about 30 min videos but maybe have examples or short 1min videos to explain some of the newer developments to help users understand the "basics".

Not sure why I would have to google it. Shouldn't it be readily available by OTOY?

Please don't take it personally but if you sell a product, support is one of the most important elements.

Hi,

This build has been updated to the 4.04.0.2 version after adding new code to try to fix the rare problems related to the scene corruptions reported by some users.

Hope it helps to fix this weird issue,

Sorry, this is a mistake in the .zip file name. The build is the right one. I'll rename the .zip files.

Thanks,

Hi All I'm having an Issue where Houdini doesn't load the new version of octane
Capture.PNG
even though I've modified the .env file to read

# OCTANE SETUP
PATH = "D:\Progams\Octane_4.04.0.2_Houdini_Win64\Octane_4.04.0.2_Houdini_17.0.506_Win64\bin;$PATH"

It works with version 4.01.1.1 with the exact same syntax to the .env
Any Ideas whats going on here?

Hmm, perhaps you have a mistake in the path. You have "D:\Progams\..." but probably it should be "D:\Programs\..." ;)

Thanks,
-Juanjo
