Hi all,
To use dispersion, create a specular material, like glass,
And change the Cauchy coefficient value on it.
Default is 0 , which is no dispersion.
You can find some Cauchy B parameters on Wikipedia, on the Cauchy equations page, for some forms of popular glass,
The range is 0.0 to 1.0 and values higher than 0.2 are not realistic, or belong to any real materials,
However they will give a very pronounced dispersion effect.
Regardin the new PMC kernel, don't be alarmed if it seems path tracing is faster currently,
A we still need to optimise it further.
PMC is currently slower to converge, eg remove noise, but it does explore caustics and fireflies converge more rapidly, which are just caustics anyway.
Also, at this time, you will probably only really see a benefit with interiors or any scene which has a lot of indirect light.
We are not posting this binary here for you to compare it to pahttracing with regards to speed,
But we would like to see some complex renders, eg interiors and such, with a lot of caustics and specular / glossy materials, compared between path tracing and PMC, to see if PMC handles all types of scenes correctly and if the difficult to trace scenes for path tracing (eg in insane amount of fireflies) render clean with it.
Thanks,
Radiance

Cool... Finally:)
The new Release seems to need a muchhigher exposure number to receive the same lighting result. Please 'level this down' so that it is closer to the direct lighting preview engine.

Thanks for your hard work Refractive. Wonderful release!
I've notice that when i use pmc i can use my pc normally, it's not slow, instead when i use pathracing i can't use my pc for other works
The time of render with pmc is bigger but the possibility to use the pc for others works is great!

Hey very nice, now please, turn caustics off from pathtracing kernel or at least put a switch for this..
It will be great if someone can explain the new sliders in PMC rollout .
I'll try it with some heavy interior scenes very soon - lots of lights and caustics. Also I'll try with exterior scenes - pool scene with lots of lights passing trough water curtains , etc..
Nice job so far.
I notice too the nice speed gain when Octane renders with PMC kernel witch is great.

It's working very well with interiors. Looking great so far.
Cheers,

P.S. Oh, one more great thing. When using new kernel computer response is much faster and windows works smoother.

Just installing new nvidia drivers to try it with gtx590... multi-gpu is not going to work though, read the OP
OK, little info regarding performance compared to 2.46b>
i tested so far only the trench benchmark scene, both with pathtracing and PMC and its interesting indeed>
tested with one core of GTX590 @700 MHz only as multiGPU does not work yet at 1920x1200>
- on 2.46b CUDA 3.0 i get with pathtracing 3,18 Ms
- on 2.47 i get with pathtracing 4,27 Ms!!! this is brilliant speed improvement indeed, probably down to CUDA 4.0, cant wait for the multi-GPU to be functional
- on 2.47 with PMC i get 3,29 Ms - its still faster than pathtracing on 2.46b CUDA 3.0 and it really seems to get away with fireflies faster, although this scene is not probably the best for testing new kernel. it does have a lot of fireflies in the beginning, as the walls of the trench are glossy be default.
going to test now those caustics and dispersion
in any case, well done, keep it up

Nice job! Octane is able to deliver production render on interior scenes now. There was a indirect light, specular, glossy... on the scene I tested and it was great. Take some time to converge but it does! No fireflies. Thank you! I´m using 2x GTX 470 and it worked pretty fine on multi gpu mode. It is not linear but the gain is very good.
--> don´t know how to use those new controlers exploration_strength, direct light importance and maxrejects
--> I´m using CUDA 4.0
--> The render is a bit darker on pmc mode
