Ability to dock Octane RenderView Inside Hou RenderView.
Moderator: juanjgon
Yes please ! This would be very helpful. Also if possible, the ability to move the camera around in the IPR like you would the Houdini viewport ( if possible
) Right now, it's quite a bit of shuffling around and moving windows.

Hi,
It seems RS has received more love than Octane lately
-dockable render view
-Ogl material
-Hydra plugin more advanced
I look forward to seeing all this comfort come to Octane render for Houdini

Building OGL material in the Octane plugin has been possible for years
The users can build their own HDA materials including OpenGL tags without big problems:

Yes I know that,
but a built in would be much more practical for everyone, this request comes up quite often, it seems to me ...like dockable live viewer...
and we always have the same answer for years now...

Be patient guys ! juanjo is doing a great job with the houdini plugin.
sure it lacks some fancy features, but the plugin is reliable and stable.
Try to use octane in Maya / Unreal / Unity on real complex production scenario, and you will realise how lucky we are as houdini users.
The only integration that i find better is the C4D one, but Aoktar has start it few years sooner.
So keep pushing juanjo ! we have Faith in you man !
Cheers

ps : regarding openGL
as otoy and arnold team are working together to integrate the standard surface shader inside octane,
https://autodesk.github.io/standard-surface/
that could be interesting to chat with frederic servant to see, if you could do a common integration on the openGL preview inside Maya and Houdini. In other word having one comon agnostic standard surface inside Maya and Houdini , that get full openGL / hydra support and that could work both with octane and arnold ? that would divide the work and that would be stellar to be able to switch between Arnold and Octane without having to change anything.

I agree 100% with you and for that I thank Aoktar and Juanjo very much.fantome wrote:Be patient guys ! juanjo is doing a great job with the houdini plugin.

But from another point of view, I really like having my main working window (which I watch all day long), comfortably seated in my workspace.
It is not something fancy but rather a significant efficiency factor.
And Juanjo had repeatedly expressed the idea that with the arrival of qt5 it would be possible to set up a dockable renderview in Octane Houdini.
This is why I insist a little.
I will be more patient...

Cheers

Yes, part of the core code used by the Qt5 IPR is already included in the Octane 2020.2 beta builds but this feature is not enabled yet. I still need to work some weeks on it before enabling it
Thanks again for your patience,
-Juanjo
