Hi Guys/Gals
What if you bring your model into Octane via obj and set all your materials the way you want it but a day later the client wants something changed in the model (in C4D). How does one alter the model but not loose the materials assigned in Octane?
Thanks,

hi
i think at the moment there is no other way then start from scratch,i hope in the future there will be a octane
plug in for C4D
for all C4D users : let Radiance know we are here too .

@jershaun, you don't loose the information if you change the source file.
I use blender but the texture information is in the .ocs file, so if i put another object in my blender file and export it again
all other informations are still there. The only thing not work for me is the environment map, but i think this is not implemented yet.
Cheers mib

Hi all,
Yeah ! We are there too !
Very good information mib2berlin ! I'll try myself from C4D !
I have read somewhere on this forum from Radiance that it will be possible to update on the fly the mesh node without loosing all materials parameters in a future release (far away maybe ?). And I think it's of course a "must have" for the final release...
It's still a very young 6/8 months beta project, there is still a lot of hard work to do before the final release 1.0. I prefer a good and stable simple standalone renderer for specific projects than a full compatible C4D, unstable full-options renderer, or a never-ending beta...
With the support of Collada and FBX, if the update system of the file from the hard disk works fine with option for this update (like choice of kind of object or parameter like UV by sample), i don't think a plugin absolutely necessary. But i don't make animations...
My five cents...

Yeah i'm adding buttons to swap them with or without keeping materials just like the image texture node.
This will be available in the 2nd beta.

Thanks for your response everybody.

Thanks
@mib2berlin: I don't understand. If I export from C4D (I don't have Riptide), I don't get a .ocs file. Even so, I still don't see how to make it work.mib2berlin wrote:@jershaun, you don't loose the information if you change the source file.

@radiance: This is a deciding factor for me. If you're going to implement something like this with certainty, then I'll buyradiance wrote: Hi,

Thanks
He means that some people have tried to save OCS projects with linked OBJS,
then changing the OBJs, but after reloading the project the new materials aren't propperly transfered.
that's why i'm adding the new buttons/functionality for the 2nd beta.

OK, I don't think this is going to help me as a C4D user to track changes made in C4D while working with Octane.
Thanks for your reply radiance.

@jershaun, if you a have beta license it is possible to save your work in octane.
Then you get a .ocs file and your changes in octane are stored.
