c4d's proRender is crazy slow...no subsurface scattering...and it's not integrated into TeamRender so you can only render on one computer.

There is competition coming from RedShift but I don't think there is any competition at all coming with ProRender anytime soon.

The thing about these GPU renderers is they sort of have this maturity level where they've been more or less integrated into their host software. The complexity level of 3rd party rendering is high. Even when that renderer is built into the software, they still can't get it to do all of the things that it should.

Octane has it's faults for sure, but it is by far the most robust and mature renderer on the market and that's not going to change for a while.

Yep. And that competition is very, very serious. The C4D Octane plugin is incredible, but the core engine development has been so frustrating. Theres only so much Aoktar can do with ingenious workarounds. Very old, serious requests have gone long ignored in favor of a Unity plugin and other random features that no one asked for. I get looking to the future and getting excited for what is to come, but you can only thumb your nose at your users for so long.

Social media, Siggraph interviews, forum discussions and rumors... Maybe its all BS. But it sounds like a lot of people have had enough.

I guess we'll see what happens over the next year as Redshift officially launches.
