Hi Juanjo,

Do you have a build for the latest production build 16.0.600?

Thanks,

Hi,

The latest H16.0.600 production build is binary compatible with the H16.0.557 build, so you can use the .557 plugin with it without problems. Anyway, the next plugin release will have a proper version for this build.

Thanks,

Hey Juanjo I think I found another one. Under Linux in Houdini 16.0.557 adding an OctLight from the octane shelf still causes Houdini to hang. In Windows however this issues doesn't exist as I used it last night without issue.

We are using "Linux 4.0.4-202.fc21.x86_64 x86_64"

Hi,
Could you please explain how the new H16 /mat VOP materials workflow works with Octane? I am unable to share nodes among different materials like with Mantra.

Thank you

I'll check this issue tomorrow on my Linux workstation. It is a weird issue ... do you have this problem while working with the IPR or also without the rendering enabled?

Thanks,

I had added some information about this new feature to the docs, but unfortunately, some topics are now missing after the docs site update. I hope to recover all this information soon.

The Octane nodes inside the /mat context should work like in Mantra, but be aware that outside of the Octane Material Builder node, only the Octane "OUT Material" (the octane material output node) can be marked as material. All the other Octane VOP nodes can't be used directly as materials.

If you have any problem working in the /mat context, please let me know. It is a new feature, so it can have bugs or missing features.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Hi,
Yes that's what I've tried to do, but it seems to ignore assignment of the OUTMATERIAL directly.
Attached is a sample scene, perhaps I've done something wrong?

Thanks

The problem is that you don't have the "Material" flag enabled in the OUT material node (the rightmost brown flag). I suppose that this flag should be enabled by default in this node, but I need to figure how to enable it from the plugin.

Thanks,

follow up question:
with the mantra shaders it's possible to have a material network in a subnet and have the material as an output of the subnet. Is this possible with octane?

thanks
