Hi Guys,
I will try to make clarity on the unit of measure.
I consider to be two important aspects to keep in mind. First of all, what Oguzbir said is presumably right.
3dsMax was written in inches, not metric; There are some situations that lead us to believe this.
First aspect is a concept of coherence.
My university professor always said: when you design an object, you have to use the a coherent measurement units but also a coerent space where you draw.
In industrial design always uses millimeters. but if you draw a ring you use an A4 sheet, differently if I am going to draw a car design, something bigger. it will be fairly difficult to draw a clock on an A0 using great tools for drawing curves of a body of car. in Rhino3D modelers or SketchUp eg, when you start a new project, you have to choose not only the unit of measurement, but the type of object to draw, why? Because it is not only important measurement unit, but also the space (in our case the grid) where we draw.
In the case of a jewel of a few centimeters in size, it has no sense to use a grid space of 1 meter.
In 3dsmax this is for example designing a 10 cm cube in a grid of 10 meters. A cube designed by hand is huge (234454335433cm), and must be corrected by typing.
I recommend then to adjust size grid scale as well.
Second aspect, the most important one about Octane:
Octane works in meters. This means that its parameters work on metric measurement.
what does it mean?
the value 1 indicates in octane 1 meter.
This means that AO, displacement, z-depth, round edges etc etc are working in meters.
we can work in inches, kilometers, feet or millimeters but we must remember Octane thinks always and only in meters.
If I work in centimeters I have to remember 1 is not centimeters, but 1 meter still and always.
so if I plan a 5cm displacement I have to write 0.05
So my advice is: to use meters, displayed what you want, use a workspace with a coherent 3dsMax grid to not have problems with 3dsmax tools, and especially do not forget to keep a calculator around your computer if you do not use meters.
Regards
Paride

I always work with the exact settings ... whether it be meters cm and mm ... m designing shopping centers .... cm - mm design stores design small objects - cameras, pens , jewelry ... if you do not need accuracy in the measurements then Yes but what about the dispersion, translucent, scatter..... I only ask to do one thing to change the parameter AO ---- which works out to 0.01 and may not fall below .... I need more detailed AO 0.0001 0.000001 0.00000001 this will solve the problem inappropriately
.....
I will continue to work in units in which I need to work

AO - 0.01 AO 0.001 AO 0.0001 AO 0.00001 AO = 0
viewtopic.php?f=80&t=57800&start=50
all other variables can be adjusted but AO no

I'm also sure that you'll fix the z-depth max is also solve the problem Unit

here just tell me what to do with a bunch of libraries
that focus on cm and mm
.....
Hey --- evrmotion archmodel redo all of its libraries in the meter world
.........
we're not understanding and we are forced to only work in metres
..........

))))))))) Revit. Autocad . Only in millimeters! ))) Is very wrong
All base models only in millimeters
Corona render operates correctly only in millimeters
