To be honest this should happen for a long date is really frustrate.
We also have v2 and v3 licenses on our Studio we have a lot license, and we spend a lot money with Otoy.

We did phone calls , we asked via mail and Forum...

We are also tired to have no developers to provide a usable plug for Maya, We start think Otoy's have as a focus C4D then others packages...I realise the older packages had the same problem, and now they have a plug for OC3, so my understand "Maya" is the last option for then.

We are already think to change workflow and start looking for different paths is quite sad all this. And we won't changed package for sure, and if we change, we won't stay with Otoy we had a really bad experience, and better to look foward to other solutions.

We give a bit of time cause our work strategies before change anything we still using OC2, If nothing changed we may need to leave to and won't be the first company as I know.

Really sad Guys is time to do something more bigger for Maya users.

I thought that when I spoke my mind on Facebook some time ago and we got a bunch of emails from the devs at Octane and Billy to visit us things where going in the right direction but it seems they aren't.

We are, at the moment using octane for Maya on the production floor and its been a huge bumpy ride. So much so that we are looking to switch.

Software like this needs a proper roadmap, resources, manual, list of known issues, a bug tracking solution, responses from devs/team AND PROPER SUPPORT.

You do know that to buy Octane + Octane4Maya costs as much or more than any of the other renderers cost?

OTOY.. you have bet too many horses and you are losing one big time...

We've hired new devs for Maya. We agree more resources have been needed for Maya V3, and those are being put in place now, just as we recently did with Max (which is now on a great trajectory). I cannot emphasize enough how important Maya is to us. You don't need to remind us (but appreciate why many of you do). We do need to be upfront about the timeframe to first beta release.

Its not just V3.... you seem to not understand what your customers do as a business.

1. V3 is not free... we have already paid you for a terrible plugin for v2...
And no... we are not paying for the upgrade...

2. V2 is used on long running productions here (because we where promised that it would improve within 6 months).. we cannot just switch to V3... everything we build will break....
I don't care how terrible the plugin has been written... you can't just drop support for something the moment you announce the next version...

3.
"We do need to be upfront about the timeframe to first beta release."
Don't write this mate if you cannot immediately set that date... because these are just empty words that will not be followed up.

EDIT 4. -> Otoy has shown to not care, in this plugin, about backwards compatibility or stable tested releases.
We can never update a version without something breaking.... that is unacceptable in the world of VFX and Motion Graphics...

I have to ask: are you hiring Maya developers or just developers? It seems like the previous hires have been discovering the quirks of the Maya API from scratch.

Maya's SDK is ancient and there are quite frankly a lot of developers out there who have spent years getting to know its idiosyncrasies. I'm just hoping you're hiring seasoned Maya developers who already know how the API ticks. Otherwise we're talking another three months full-time to get a developer to where they'll be useful.

.

^^^KEY

we've had comments like this for that past 6 months. we are DONE with comments like this. we will take our money elsewhere if we cant start getting REAL dates and if those dates get missed, get an update about what to expect. Not weeks or months of radio silence on the forums when a date is missed. We need to have update to understand what is going on.

WE WILL TAKE OUR MONEY ELSEWHERE OTHERWISE

The dosis of information you provide is really homoeopathic.

I am a loyal customer for the last 6 years using it with various plugins almost every day. The "Maya experience" was the worst experience ever I had with software. Not because of the buggy test releases, weak support and delayed updates. The false promises in terms of schedule and what is going on was not acceptable.

I am not blaming the whole company since there are other plugins doing well with excellent support and regular updates.
At the moment it is too dangerous to use the Maya Plugin for a serious production.

But I don't give up the hope that there will be a great Maya development comming soon.
All the best for shaping a good future for the Maya Plugin.
